The 5 Worst States For Women
Based on recently released Census Bureau data, women made up almost half of the workforce last year. Yet, even working full-time and year-round, they were paid only 79 cents for every dollar men made. The wage gap varies considerably between states. Women receive 86 cents for every dollar men make in New York, for example, while in Louisiana, women are paid just 66% of what men earn.
Income inequality is only one of the challenges women face. Across the nation, women are less likely to serve in leadership roles both in the private and public sectors. Health outcomes among female populations also vary considerably between states. Based on 24/7 Wall St.’s analysis, Mississippi is the worst state for women in the nation.
In all of the worst rated states, women were less likely than their male peers to hold private sector management positions. In two of the worst states — South Dakota and Utah — women held fewer than one in three management jobs. According to Ariane Hegewisch, study director at the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, women are discriminated not just in base pay, but also lack career opportunities available to men. “A lot of [the wage gap] is also promotions, recruitments, and networking,” Hegewisch said. Perceptions of performance can also be affected by gender, meaning “the more the pay is related to performance and bonuses, the bigger the wage gap.”

Re: The 5 Worst States For Women
So much more to consider beyond equal pay, though. The government of my home state of Texas is doing its best to shut down all but something like five abortion clinics in the state. That's five abortion clinics, which actually serve a lot more of women's health issues besides performing abortions, for more people than the nation of Afghanistan, spread out over an area larger than France.
In other states they force women seeking abortions -- a legal medical procedure here, by the way -- to have an instrument inserted into their bodies for no medical reason.
And we've still not had a female president. I know some people will look at that and say "who cares," but it's the same problem with having a majority-white police force in a majority-black community -- it sends the message that some people are shut out of the power structure based on DNA or chromosomes.
Still, we're all thinking it's Hillary Clinton's job if she wants it So there's hope ...

Re: The 5 Worst States For Women
This is the problem Ben that even wealthy nations, still hold the poor perception that men make for being better qualified for the job, which I think has always stemmed from some belief centered around physical strength, which views wrongly that women cannot be strong or rule. This would also be down to again Pauline Christianity (and other faiths), where women are taught to be obedient to men (religion creating problems again).
What would be interesting to know if there is a connection here based off why they are bad with how many people in these areas are literal in their religious beliefs.

I think the connection is undeniable ... we've talked before about how ancient pagan groups ranging from the Celts to the Scythian tribes you posted about before have been much better in terms of gender equality. Of course, Christianity and Judaism put the first woman at fault for why we're not living for eternity in a beautiful garden Most religions are no better ...
I read something a while back -- I can't find an Internet source for it, but it was in a wide-view history book that I read, that stated that the downfall of gender equality goes all the way back to when men first discovered their role in procreation. Before that, you could see how people held human reproduction as a feminine mystery as represented in fertility goddesses, etc. After that, people started to build monuments in this style:
Hmmm ...

You can't deny they are pretty impressive though! The big stone structures of man I mean
As an aside, the states that came up after reading the thread title- didn't surprise me

(Ahem) yes, those are certainly magnificent -- feats of architecture, and they bring back fond memories, somehow, of waking up in the morning when I was around 16, 17 ...
Yeah, everything bad in America either comes from, or is endorsed by, those states

Re: The 5 Worst States For Women
Those are the result of natural erosion from ancient volcanic sites. The top bolder is cooled lava, while the supporting pillars are weaker limestone Phallus indeed. I saw a History Channel show about it.
And I doubt the ancients would have carved a circumcised penis...if they didn't know where children came from, they surely hadn't entered the age of genital mutilation. Lol.
Just to play devil's advocate, and bring the discussion back to the real issue, some argue (not me necessarily) that the reason women suffer lower wages, as well as deceleration of advancement, is that they abandon their careers--perhaps temporarily--in order to have children and devote themselves to growing of a family.
Several answers have been offered to that, including some that suggest that women should be paid for their domestic furlough. But of course, that will not help women on the issue of career progress, as their time off will mean that they will inevitably be permanently behind.

Are you really attempting to make an empirical argument to never allow women to lead based off one woman, Victor?

lol good answer to a bugger of a question, but no reprieve buddy.
Your answer is now based on two women, attempting to make an empirical argument to never allow women to lead.
Are you claiming no woman has been able to lead and only men can?
Sorry mate, you cannot blame me for taking advantage of your original reply.

Re: The 5 Worst States For Women
well now didge its interesting, but lests take sex for an example...MOST positions have the woman UNDER the man, and it is clear that that is indeed their role in life.....as exampled by the following
what is the definition of a mistress
that which comes between a master and a matress
now unless you sleep under your matress, which I think you will agree is a terminally warped thing to do, that clearly indicates the proper station in life for women...
Q.E.D.

Re: The 5 Worst States For Women
Ah but that is your perception of sexual positions Victor, where some men find women on top more enlightening.
If your argument is now based on sexual positions, that really is waving the flag of defeat.
Equate now all sexual preferences into your belief above.
The proper station in life for a woman is to survive first.
Second as it is for the man reproduce, as it is for all species.
So your ideals of a good leader start in the wrong direction, as in every species, what attracts all others to to good leaders.
It is one word and is the most important attribute that a leader has.
Try again.

Re: The 5 Worst States For Women
strength (whether that be knowledge, political, financial or raw violent strength depends on situation)

Re: The 5 Worst States For Women
Physical strength?
Strength is based on leadership right?
Do you need a spade to help you climb out?

Re: The 5 Worst States For Women
as I said ...it depends on situation as to what sort of strength is attractive
I mean, given a "mad Max" scenario who would YOU rather as leader....
an ex financier (no matter HOW successful) or ex marine??
but given a financial crisis who would rather have...a successful financier or an ex marine????
I know you are alluding perhaps to "charisma" but that is a false veneer and depends entirely on ones perception.....

Re: The 5 Worst States For Women
That is so going off topic, because they will always share the same main attributes as all leaders do.
People go about this questionably in the wrong fashion and think of morals they hold, not what draws people to others.

I've given a lot of thought to this question, and I have concluded that the woman belongs on the top. Hence, we should encourage our females to go into politics.
Before humans turned around and faced each other during coitus, the woman was not necessarily on top but she faced the ground whence gravity came from...the so-called doggy position. Over many, many millennia the female uterus has turned forward from this aspect, positioning the cervix and uterus beneath the action (sex) and maximizing the potential for conception.
Now that humans have adopted a face-to-face positioning during coitus, in order to have the same maximization the woman must be on top, facing the ground whence gravity comes from. That's the way the female reproductive system has evolved in order to work...positioning the cervix and uterus beneath the action.
Just turn this diagram to the left 90° and you will see what I mean. When the female is face-down, the uterus is beneath the action. In both doggy style, and face-to-face coitus, the female faces the ground and the internal organs function consonant with gravity. The woman belongs on top.
That means that Germany is very fortunate to have Merkel, and the US will be equally blessed when Hillary is elected. Woman on top = good omen. Plus, it is natural and the way our organs were intended or designed to function...just ask Tommy. According to natural biological and mechanical design, we were meant to have female leaders.
