A listener of the StarTalk Radio program, which was first hosted by renowned astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, asked Nye that question in a recent episode.

Lurker, you'll probably remember that Shortnews asshole GogeVanDire or whatever he called himself, who openly asked if we want to be governed by an intellectual elite.

My answer is yes, yes, emphatically yes. I don't know what kind of problems you have to have in order to not want the smartest of the smart running the show. You'll remember he was a libertarian; I guess these people are the same sort of right-wingers, deep down, who are threatened by the truly smart (and wise) people of society.

I think it's high time we reverse the trend that those best suited to power don't seek it, while the worst of us run for public office. I think we'd be far better off with analytical-genius humanists in charge than those who think God tells them to invade Iraq.

Yes, I remember that jerk. I personally think we need women to be in every political office. Women can get things done and done the right way. The men have failed miserably at politics.

look at Thatcher, Gillard wasn't 'great' either.

the problem is Greed, our society is structured to reward Greed and Deception
We get the leaders we deserve, we do not reward intelligence as much as we reward Greed and Deception.

It is the basis of evolution really we create the circumstances that reward certain behaviours so we can hardly be surprised when such behaviours become dominate Neutral
