How many qualified first aiders on here ?...
Please don't lie or I'll know
Na, it's something many people don't often think about ,but someone qualified in first aid can be the difference ...my missus done a course I first aid and I hope she remembers what she was taught!
And if anyone is a first aider, were you ever needed in a serious situation where you thought you had saved someone or bought them more time until emergency services arrived?

Did my first aid course a long time ago to be a first aider at work. Had to use it when two motorbikes collided at a stop sign where I was waiting to cross. Did CPR in another situation (will not mention) but I don't think I'd want to take charge in any situation now, my original course was such a long time ago.

Hey Sass, that CPR you performed most likely saved that persons life, and depending on the injuries to the bikers, you might have even done likewise there....
But the CPR course,,,how valuable is that eh!
Although you say you wouldn't want to take charge in a situation now sass, I guess there is always that possibility of say...someone walking down the road suddenly collapses with chest pains ...that could be you again faced with that situation....
You must be quite glad you done that CPR course though eh!
I really should do one of those courses , I don't think many people think they will need that, the unknown is always around the corner I guess.

well aside from the fact that i might decide NOT to intervene...for your own good you realise....I mean would you want to be recussitated possibly brian damaged???OH....WAIT...
thats default for you.....
that aside....whats changed so much?
actually a lot.....it has been changed...then changed back and again and again
the first aid NOW is little different to when I FIRST started...there is even talk of going back to rcommending the use of torniquets which went out of favour quite a while ago...
so perhaps you main worry would not be collapsing in my company, but recieving a head injury, for which I might just consider a torniquet round the neck...... ::slap::

I'VE done a few First Aid courses over the years.
Starting with Junior St.John's certificates whilst doing Bronze and Silver 'Duke of Edinburgh Award' schemes while still at school in the 1970s..
Then there were a few more-or-less sometimes-relevant subjects while at Uni' ~ physiology, biochemistry, anatomy/histology, endocrinology, epidemiology and animal health, nutrition..
Did the odd Senior cert's and Industrial/Workplace cert's between the 1980s and early 2000's; plus the Army Reserve's 'battle field' first aid days.
Peaking with a "First Responders and Vertical Rescue.." 7-day course in the late 1990s..
The last pertinent courses I did were Industrial First Aid, Vertical Rescue and Confined Space cert's in 2003, with those expiring in 2006.
And then there has been the occasional rescue training and actual S&R activities as a volunteer with the State Emergency Services..
Since when, I have been meaning to renew these qualifications.
..jings Bee!...safe as houses around you then mate!
You put me to shame!
Have you had to put these skills to use Bee?

Was sent on one at St Johns Ambulance by work and now get paid for having the qualification by work - every month, a little extra in the pay packet - was very surprised.
I've discussed this before - this should be on the national curriculum - just 1 week per year in secondary school - something worthwhile for once!

Simply been more lucky then anything ls, in that regard.
