John Bishop spends £1000 buying his audience drinks after being 45 minutes late to own show

The comedian is officially vying for World’s Nicest Man title after treating staff and fans in Northampton to a beer

It seems pretty standard for celebrities to turn up late to their own shows these days, and we rarely see an apology, let alone a free drink

But when comedian John Bishop got caught up in traffic en route to his show in Northampton on Friday night, he went that extra mile in his apology, buying everyone in the audience – and all the staff at the venue – a drink.

We spoke to staff at the Royal & Derngate Theatre, who told us John spent “almost £1000” buying drinks after arriving 45 minutes late.

Staff member Louise added that it’s: “Never happened here before. John’s an all-round nice guy.”

Fans also tweeted their surprise, with one fan posting:

“Cheers John a Bishop, late comer, comedian and man with too much money clearly.”

Bishop, 47, and his wife Melanie have now moved pot bellied pig Milo onto land at their £2.25m family home.

The three-year-old male had been living at an RSPCA rescue centre for almost a year.

Centre manager Jackie William said: “John’s wife saw the information and video about him.

“She fell in love with him then and there and they arranged for him to be collected without actually meeting him first.

“RSPCA inspectors did the adoption checks at his new home to ensure Milo has a hard-standing area and a pig ark to shelter in.

“As along as the Bishop family give him food, he’ll be very well behaved and I think he’s found a good home and will be spoilt rotten.”
