Regards to The op, most people will only understand intelligence by the confines of their own limited capacity.

I think some people will find it harder to learn things That other more intelligent people will grasp much more easily so maybe they then have a bigger sense of achievement and view this achievement as being a bigger badge of honour than it might really be worthy of?

I think intelligent people understand how much they don't know.. also when you study to become an expert in something you realise it takes a lifetime and you still may not know everything about just the one thing you are an expert in (depending on the size and complexity of that thing). Part of that is also exposure because I am smart and got sent to a special school for the academically gifted I realise there are still people a lot Smarter than me because I went to school with them    I was 90%+ student at normal school without really trying   , I had to work to get 80% at the selective school   

I definitely agree with the last point. which sort of relates to a philosophical query I have had.  
Do people that are generally not good at stuff find it easier to stick at something when they do have some success with it?
Me and My sister in law were discussing it your see we both are the type of person that picks up a hobby easily get quite good at it (where people complement and we may even make some money) and then get bored and start a new hobby. So for example we can both play guitar but neither of us could stick to it long enough to get the whole 10,000 hours thing that they say you need to be an expert.    it takes that next level of commitment to go from 'good' to 'great' I just wonder if it is easier to make that commitment if you normally don't have success and people don't say your good at that and you find something that people say your good at. I used the example of guitar because we have a friend that is Great at guitar at first he was just 'good' (he got no more praise than me) but he is literally always playing it its been 15 years and he is still at it all the time... but he was sort of always just average at any anything else. So did that make it easier for him to stick at it and get the 10,000 hours thing

He does tend to speak the only truth he will understand. He tends to totally ignore science or evidence which even slightly contradicts his own fixed truth- He does it frequently when criticizing gay people but I've seen him do this on things like the moon landings (fake apparently)... he never offers anything new and just uses his same lines which apparently are so logical they cannot be disproven. Frankly arguing with tommy is like trying to move a mountain, a total waste of time most of the time

I never claim to be "expert" in anything (I prefer to leave that terminology up to others..), but I DO push what I was educated and trained in, where I've worked and what I've done...

AND some people will also say that I "don't suffer fools gladly", and sometimes act too hastily in telling them off..

AT a 1979 grad' ceremony that I attended at my old Uni' because I knew some of the graduates, the faculty dean said to the effect that : "Your education doesn't finish with your graduation. This is actually the start of the rest of your learning, that will continue through your whole life !" [My paraphrasing].
