Men Sprayed In Face In Homophobic Attack

Two attacks in which three men were sprayed with a liquid, thought to be ammonia, outside a nightclub are being treated by police as homophobic crimes.

Two men were assaulted outside The Lightbox club in Vauxhall, south London, in the early hours of Sunday, following an argument with a group.

A short time later a third victim was also sprayed in the face.

One of the men hurt in the first attack has told the Evening Standard he has been warned he might never see again.


The man, one of the victims from the first attack, said: "My face was burning so much, I thought it was acid. I thought I would never see again and my face was melting.

"He poured every last drop on to us and then turned around and walked away, like it was mission accomplished.

"The chemical burnt the cornea in my left eye and the vision hasn't cleared since. The doctors said it should hopefully return but there is no guarantee."

Police say the comments made by the attacker have led officers to treat the assaults as hate crimes.

Officers believe the same man was responsible for both assaults and have issued CCTV stills of a man and two women they wish to trace.

Well, to be fair I've posted tons of stuff here that doesn't seem to draw much discussion. You seem to be a bit more adept at that than I, particularly you seem to get debates going when you ask questions based on the report. I notice you didn't here, maybe that made the difference.

Or maybe it was just that it seems rather open-and-shut, so what else is there to say?

You're possibly right.

I do like to turn things around and ask the difficult questions, or the peculiar questions - it does get the debate going!

You're possibly right.

I do like to turn things around and ask the difficult questions, or the peculiar questions - it does get the debate going!

Interestingly, that's exactly what news outlets have been training reporters to do with their social media posts -- always try to ask a question, even if it's just "what do you think" -- it does tend to invite interaction

I always consider the invitation to interact to be implied; that's why we're here, after all ...

Argument with a group of men but one attacker. Hopefully CCTV as it was outside a club. Hope they catch him and do him for GBH with intent.
Poor man I hope they can save his sight.
