Chester Nez died yesterday at age 93. The language he was once punished for speaking in school became his primary weapon in World War II.

Chester along with 29 other U.S. Marine code talkers used the Navajo language as basis for a cipher they the Japanese were unable to break.

in 2001 the original 29 were awarded the Congressional Gold Medal.
