People of different faiths jointly protest terrorism in Jos, Nigeria
When Islamist militants set off two bombs that killed 123 people in Nigeria's volatile city of Jos on Tuesday, many feared it would also detonate bloody reprisals in one of Africa's most religiously tense cities. Umar Tijani, a Muslim, barricaded himself indoors, haunted by memories of seeing a mob bludgeon six youths to death four years ago when Christmas Day bombs pushed the city into a frenzy of killing.
But this time, the youths who gathered in Jos's winding hillside streets were not out for blood; they went hoping to prevent more being spilled.
"Everybody suffered, whether Muslim, Christian or voodoo [animist]. We are starting to see that if we fight among ourselves, we will all be dead," said Ezekiel, a 27-year-old Christian who went out that night. With a pink baseball cap covering a machete scar from the past violence, he patrolled his neighbourhood with a group of four friends. At one point they escorted a Muslim whose six-week-old child needed to reach a hospital on a "Christian" street.
A handful of violent incidents aside, youths from both faiths who might have been expected to turn on each other have instead joined forces. Gestures of goodwill, repeated elsewhere in a metropolis where invisible boundaries still determine what streets a Muslim or Christian can safely cross after nightfall, may have saved this city on a cliff-edge from falling off, at least for now.

Well as many wars have been fought over religion, how many lives would have been saved without such religious wars?

Is it hard to say, Christianity was spread very much by the sword or should I say gun, in the Americas, Africa and Asia. So to me thus religion is the problem to countless problems. Look at how Evangelical Christians are set against just evolution being taught, where as those who advocate evolution do not call for stopping any religious education, do you see the difference? Religious people try to censor or stop any different views to its own beliefs, it tries to deny its followers being taught science in the fear some will lose their faith. That says to me the religious message is not strong enough because faith should all be that is needed, not a fear people will leave the faith because of science.
Again it shows some people of religions are the problem, as they wish to enforce their views. Atheism is not without problems, like was had in Communist Russia or China, but no wars have started with other nations because of spreading atheism.

I'm NOT an ATHEIST
I'm Religious like you (sort of ) I'm allowed to be extremist
AND you really missed the point Even if we did purge all Christians (etc) the powers that be would find some reason to divide us to they can profit from our animosity. Like the fact that Darwin's Claims are disputed, he is a bloody copy cat plagiarist, stole his ideas from Wallace a poorer man that paid for his studies by collecting specimens for rich men like Darwin they says he came to the realization while racked with a malaria induced fever that nilly killed him, as it does when you are in the middle of a Javanese rainforest forest
