Press Release: Farage caught out over halal meat
Nigel Farage today called for more EU labeling of halal meat, despite failing to vote for that very measure in 2010
During a phone in on LBC radio this morning Farage said it is Europe’s job to provide that kind of regulation.
What he failed to disclose is that when the European Parliament was voting through a package of food labelling regulations, which included the clear labelling of halal meat, 5 Ukip MEPs voted against, two did not vote, including Nigel Farage himself, and one, Paul Nuttall, did not attend.
British Influence Director, Peter Wilding, said: “Ukip has to understand that you cannot have your cake and eat it. Nigel Farage cannot say he is against EU imposed regulation then berate the EU for failing to regulate halal meat. And when the European Parliament had a vote on this Ukip MEPs either didn’t turn up, didn’t vote or voted against. What exactly is Ukip’s policy on halal meat? They can’t vote against regulation then complain there isn’t any regulation.”
