Over 100,000 People Found Living for Decades inside Horrifying “Caged City”
Hong Kong is ranked among the world’s most expensive cities to live in. For those who can afford it, life is nothing short of glamorous. If you can’t, you’ll live the rest of your life like an animal inside a cold steel cage.
Hong Kong has a serious housing problem. Over 100,000 people live in 'mesh boxes' in the older districts of Sham Shui Po, To Kwa Wan and Kwun Tong. Too poor to live elsewhere, it's either a cage home or the streets for them. Cockroaches and lice are common. Most of the people in cages prefer to sleep on cardboard because of the bedbugs in mattresses. Ventilation is poor, residents often have bronchial conditions and mold growing in their lungs.

Check out these pictures. My God it's like something out of Blade Runner. How can a relatively rich country like this treat their people like this?

A friend of mine lives in Hong Kong. She has a flat but she does say it's quite crowded there, and that it can be very humid there, so there is a mold problem generally.
That fifth picture in the link is amazing!

Ffs, what a terrible existence , poor people, very sad to say but they are probably just as well of being deceased rather than tolerate that misery every day.

The Daily Mail has run this story several times, so it can be quite informative.

Hong Kong is not a country. It is a Chinese territory..
China is only "rich" in absolute terms ~ divide its' GNP by its' 1.3 billion population, and things don't look so rosy.
OVER 80% of China's citizens still live in "third world" conditions; many of them below the poverty level...
That sounds about right Bee.

Went there from Singapore for a holiday years ago, when it was still a British territory. The poverty was terrible, including 'the boat people' in the harbour areas who lived in squalor while the rich lived up on the hill.
