Exclusive: Grindr removes advert from Christian group GodLife Godlife-Grindr

PinkNews Exclusive
Grindr has confirmed it will remove an advert from a Christian group, which had been appearing to users of the gay dating app.

It emerged earlier today that GodLife had been using Grindr to advertise the ‘four steps to God’, though the group denied it was trying to ‘change’ gays.

A Grindr spokesperson told Pink News: “Grindr has made a business decision not to accept religious advertising.

“We have both direct advertisers as well third party ad networks which supply advertising to the app. The ad you reference was served by one of these third party ad networks.

“While we do have safeguards in place to monitor for ads on third party networks, we do serve billions of ads on our network, so there is the occasional chance that an inappropriate ad may appear.

“In this instance, we’ve reached out to the third party networks to have the ad removed.

“While we are pleased to learn that Godlife.com seems to be an inclusionary organization, we are working to remove this ad from Grindr.”

A spokesperson for GodLife had earlier said: “We do not judge anyone. We simply want you to know the love of God and what His son did to save you from your sin.

“I am not trying to change you from who you are at all. God made you just the way you are.”

However, despite the tolerant stance, an article on their website warns: “God will remove His hand from your service to Him if you allow lust to lead you to actual sexual immorality.”

The article also warns to “avoid pornography” and “monitor your fantasizing and daydreaming when your mind is idle”.

According to the article, the organization is not anti-gay (so they wouldn't be so ridiculous as to see HIV as a "gay illness from God"). The ad was removed due to a decision to not include religious ads of any kind.

Noooo! Grindr should probe their free speech credentials by demanding to advertise back on their website http://www.godlife.com/
