Michaela McCollum and Melissa Reid , both 20, having been sent to over six and a half years in a Peruvian prison , had been living in squalor like conditions after being caught smuggling £ 1.5 million pounds of Cocaine ...

Two silly young lasses who made a big mistake and are rightly being punished, but this would have been better served in a UK prison, it seems they are more frowned upon than some who kill children, sexually abuse them, rapists and race killings..

Society has it's priorities badly mixed up, as do the judicial system in many countries.

I've heard about prisons like that, quite messed up. I do wonder if it's the larger toll the drug trade has had on places like Peru, but surely violence should be punished more than drug abuse.

Then again, there are many here in the U.S. that would have our prisons become even worse, and ours are horrible.
