Aaron Miller, the Minnesota Republican Party’s nominee for the 1st Congressional District, said this week that he wanted to win because learning about evolution made his daughter cry, and he wanted to make sure that schools were not forced to teach it.

The Mankato Free Press reported last month that Miller told a story to a Republican county convention about how his daughter became “very upset because she had to learn about evolution at school.”

Miller claimed that even the teacher expressed agreement with the daughter, but said that the evolution lesson was a requirement. The candidate refused to provide any other details at the time.

“There’s a war on our values by the government,” he insisted. “We should decide what is taught in our schools, not Washington, D.C.”

Over the weekend, Miller was officially named the Republican nominee, and he took the opportunity to repeat the anti-evolution story.

“He also called for more religious freedoms,” the Free Press noted. “He repeated his story about his daughter returning home from school in tears because evolution was being taught in her class. He said the teacher admitted to not believing in the scientific theory to his daughter but told her that the government forced him to teach the lesson.”

Once again, as a teacher my lesson on intelligent design would last all of 3 minutes. "Intelligent design means that some people believe that the world and all life on it was created by a supernatural power that cannot be proven or tested and therefore is not material for a science class. If you wish to continue discussion of this topic please go to your comparative religion teacher or the mythology section of the library."

excellent reason to stand, why should kids be forced to believe an unproven theory just because it suits some people..

parents should be able to opt out of learning evolution ..

Just because you don't think it's been proven doesn't mean that's true, I would challenge you to present evidence that contradicts evolution but I pretty much know by this point what your response will be (nonsense about the eye-color of ancient hominids, etc.).

By the way, did you recently join an assassin's guild or something?  ::roglol::

Precisely, science has a very simple definition that somehow seems so hard for some to grasp -- i.e. it only studies the observable and testable.

Ban All Bibles
as they are PROVEN False

Evolution is correct you don't like it don't get immunised, don't take antibiotics and don;t get surgery because we Only know the stuff for surgery from practising on Rats which we couldn't if evolution was not at least fundamentally correct.

Parent that wish to opt out of learning evolution should be reported for child abuse.
