Health organizations race to contain one of worst-ever Ebola outbreaks
International aid organisations launched a series of emergency measures across west Africa on Thursday in a bid to contain one of the worst ever outbreaks of the deadly Ebola virus, which is threatening every country in the region.
The Geneva-based World Health Organization (WHO) announced emergency training for 70 people who would fan out across the Guinean capital Conakry to track people who have had close contact with Ebola patients.
The UN agency is also setting up a special alert and response operation centre within the Guinean health ministry and training staff at Guinea's main hospital and other health facilities.
The organisation has described west Africa's first Ebola outbreak as one of the most challenging since the virus emerged in 1976 in what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo.
It is also one of the most deadly, with 157 people infected and 101 deaths in Guinea alone.

It's getting worse and it's not good. I do hope they manage to contain it.

It does and it looks like a very nasty and painful way to die.

I think it is very worrying. Nothing stays in one country in this day and age. They seem to be doing all they can, but will all they can be good enough?

Apparently they eat bats there, and bats can carry the virus?
They also say the traditional hand-washing of corpses before funerals can spread the disease ...
Re: Health organizations race to contain one of worst-ever Ebola outbreaks
it sounds a bit disgusting to be honest, i think the people who have gone to help are very brave because they are still in danger despite all the procedures in place to keep them safe are not infallible..

Re: Health organizations race to contain one of worst-ever Ebola outbreaks
it is both good and bad
bad because of the human cost and potential danger to all
Good because, IF the virus (which is an animal virus, "a zoonose") becomes "acclimatised" to the human, it is likely to become far less virulent and much less of a killer. A good example of this was syphillis, which when it transfered to humans was quickly and absolutely lethal. Although still lethal if untreated it has modified its progrees to become a chronic rather than acute disease.... It does NO good to a parasite to be "good" at killing its host...
