Ebola declared an epidemic again; outbreak ranks second-worst ever
The Ebola epidemic in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is a public health emergency of international concern, the World Health Organization has declared, calling for more funds and international support to close it down.
The second biggest Ebola outbreak ever, after the 2014-16 epidemic in west Africa, has reached a critical point with the diagnosis of a case in Goma, a city of 2 million people, which is a transport hub on the border with Rwanda. That follows the case last week of a women who crossed into Uganda to buy fish – and the arrival of a family harbouring the virus, three of whom died, in Uganda last month.
Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the WHO director general, appealed on Wednesday for the international community to help with funds. WHO is working on a new plan to control the epidemic, he said, which would cost “hundred of millions” of dollars.
“It is time for the world to take notice and redouble our efforts. We need to work together in solidarity with the DRC to end this outbreak and build a better health system,” said Tedros.
More than 2,500 cases, according to the source: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/jul/17/drc-ebola-epidemic-is-international-emergency-says-who

The rest of the world had better do something before it actually breaks out of the Congo, if only out of self interest.

You can't cure Ebola because it's a virus. There is a vaccine I think, but it's going to take a long time to vaccinate everyone. The best thing to do is to contain it, and stop people from touching those who have died of Ebola without protection.

It'll be difficult many people just don't believe there's a problem and won't be vaccinated there 's the local beliefs as well. Medical centres that have been set up have been attacked by mobs, who seem to think the vaccinations are the disease and medical staff are being murdered.

It will just have to be contained then. If people in the areas where Ebola is present don't want to be helped, they'll just have to be prevented from going elsewhere and possibly spreading it.

A preacher from one of the areas worst hit, left the area and managed to get into the city. He had apparently touched a number of bodies of people who had died of Ebola, he also apparently lied about where he had come from so wasn't tested, he has died now.
