The Ark: Could Noah's Tale Be True?

The Ark: Could Noah's Tale Be True?
The new film "Noah" stars Russell Crowe as the man chosen by God to collect pairs of Earth's animals on a massive ark to save them from a global flood. The film, which opens March 28, is sizing up to be a Biblical blockbuster, replete with star power and stunning special effects. But how realistic is it?
While many people consider the story of Noah's Ark merely an instructive myth or parable about God's punishment for man's wickedness, others believe that the story is historically accurate. To them, Noah's tale describes events that really happened only a few thousand years ago.

This really is an excellent article and well worth the read, it also make me chuckle quite a bit at creationist views on the story of Noah and the Ark

I suspect all tales and myths carry some fact about them but, like Chinese whispers, the facts turn into fantasy and the story gets changed... My thoughts are that there probably was a great flood; not necessarily a global flood, but to people living in those times I expect their continent was the 'world' as far as they were concerned. Whenever I look at the Grand Canyon I can picture a huge river running through it. We know how the planet's changed over the millennia.
Anyway, as to the Ark, I wonder if there was an advanced civilization living anywhere on the planet at the time. They could have arrived in a ship like our modern day cruisers, which would seem miraculous to people living at that time, or they could have had the knowledge to instruct people to build a ship along those lines. They would have told them to pick a few pairs of each species, enough to breed new herds and save the species. I expect we'd do pretty much the same today if we found a backwards culture in danger of extinction from flood. Not so far fetched when you dig a bit.

I have no doubt that there was a great flood to many coastal areas Tess, because we have the evidence there was, with places now under the water and with the end of the last ice age, no doubt through a spike in the meltdown of the ice, it would not take much, would create localized flooding world over, which would have devastated any early civilizations. So folks stories always have a small amount of truth to something that did happen, of that I can deny. The point is though the looney tune claims from creationists, which are absurd
If they were that smart Tess, they would not need to take any species, only its DNA and anything else to recreate them.
