U.S. lawmakers, others condemn Trump for 'lynching' comment on impeachment probe
U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday again waded into America’s fraught racial history by labeling the impeachment inquiry against him a “lynching” - language that conjured memories of decades of killings of thousands of black people - drawing swift bipartisan condemnation.
"All Republicans must remember what they are witnessing here - a lynching. But we will WIN!" Trump wrote on Twitter, referring to the impeachment inquiry here in the Democratic-led House of Representatives focusing on his request that Ukraine investigate a domestic political rival, Democrat Joe Biden.
Lynching refers to the murder of thousands of Americans, most of them black, between the 1880s and 1960s, as African-Americans struggled for their rights as U.S. citizens in the aftermath of the Civil War in which Southern states fought in vain to maintain black slavery.
“The president should not compare a constitutionally mandated impeachment inquiry to such a dangerous and dark chapter of American history. It’s irresponsible for him to do so, and I hope that he will apologize,” said House Democratic Caucus Chairman Hakeem Jeffries, who is black.

At least 5 House Democrats compared Bill Clinton’s impeachment to a ‘lynching’ in 1998
At least five House Democrats talked about a “lynching” or “lynch mob” as pertaining to Clinton, according to a Fix review.
“The highest officeholder should think about these words. The rural south where I was born has a tarnished and painful history,” Rep. Danny K. Davis (D-Ill.) tweeted Tuesday.
“I don’t expect Trump to be sensitive to the weight of that word, or see how insulting and hurtful it is to invoke it here,” Rep. Gregory W. Meeks (D-N.Y.) tweeted Tuesday.
In 1998, however, both Davis and Meeks called the Clinton impeachment proceedings a “lynching” on the House floor the day before the president was impeached. Then-Rep. Charles B. Rangel (D-N.Y.) described what he called a “lynch mob mentality, that says this man has to go” during a floor speech the same day.

The Clinton impeachment was over a private matter, not a matter of national security.
Trump has sold out American national security, for private gain. Clinton never offered American international policy for sale to the highest bidder. Trump has threatened to withhold defensive missiles unless a foreign government fabricates oppo research. That's a violation of law.

Nonsense. Democrats still stand for the people. Republicans stand for cheating the people. It's as simple as that.

Quill, I really do take issue with you over that.
Bill Clinton 's seduction of White House intern Monica Lewinsky may not have been a matter of national security, and I'm happy to concede that he didn't offer US international policy for sale to the highest bidder - so far as I know - during his presidency,
But he not only cheated on his wife and family, admittedly a purely personal matter and of which both Eisenhower and Roosevelt were guilty if my memory serves me right, but in his unequivocal statement that "...I never had sexual relations with that woman..." he not only lied to the Senate and the House of Representatives, the American people and to a court of law...the latter being potentially if not in reality the serious criminal offence of perjury.
As I've said previously, I believed Clinton's presidency was a good one and he always struck me as being one of the most "human" and down-to-earth US Presidents of recent times, perhaps rivaling Obama...but he almost literally threw Ms Lewinski to the dogs, branding her as an immoral liar.
I really don't see how you can possibly dismiss that as being of little consequence.

You hit the nail on the head, Fred. Trump is a traitor to his country. Clinton was an everyday philanderer.

I'm not dismissing Clinton's affair with Monica Lewinsky. But it is a romantic script, with a humorous twist. It was nothing like the Trump criminal family overtaking the office of the presidency...and irreverently killing thousands of Kurd babies in an act of colossal betrayal.
One plot is an epic of historical proportions, the other plot is at best a romantic comedy, that goes no higher than local made-for-TV.
