I don't know how many gamers there are on these threads but I came across this interesting thing on IMDB. There is going to be a movie based on the old computer game. for those who don't know Phantasmagoria was released back in the late 90's by Sierra Entertainment. It was a adventure game/interactive movie created by Roberta Williams of King's Quest fame. At the time it was pretty controversial because it had rape, graphic gore, and several on screen murders. Granted this is all tame by current standards but back in the day it was a big deal.
I'm bringing this up because while I do think it was a good game back then, it hasn't exactly aged well. I suppose it could be a decent haunted house movie considering the murderous previous owner and the demon possession that occurs in later chapters.

I only remember friends talking about it like it was the coolest thing ever, but when it got to the point of finding out whether they'd actually played, the conversations always seemed to take an abrupt turn

I played it! I saved up to buy it brand new for my comp on release day. At the time it was awesome. Aside from Gabriel Knight it was the only game at the time to have a rather dark and serious story line. The acting was hammy but still it was cutting edge back in '95.

They've become too slick in some ways, huh?
At any rate, I checked that IMDB link and the movie stars Mischa Barton -- so it will probably be terrifying
