Books you recommend
I got a new Ipad Air last week. I would like to use it for recreational purposes. I like reading books particularly true stories. Can someone recommend a true story or a history book?

Andrew Marr's History of the World is a fantastic read
For a more closer History read I'd recommend 'Red Heat' by Alex Von Trunzelmann, about Cuba, Haiti and Dominican Republic and the US war against communism in the 50s-70s- a thrilling read
And how can I not mention the God Delusion and God is Not Great by Dawkins and Hitchens- eye opening in many ways

Re: Books you recommend
Just started on Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall, and although I'm definitely not into historical novels I'm totally hooked (brother recommended it). Very glad I got the next one 'Bringing Up the Bodies' at the same time.

I prefer fictional stories personally, novels.
Once I get into reading I literally devour books.
I have a stack by the side of my bed like a little table lol

When we moved I gave 16 boxes and 12 bags of books to the local charity stores. My room is full of book cases. I had some spare space, but just had to buy some more book cases!

Elric of Melnibone by Michael Moorcock a very good read as long as you like sword and sorcery style books, he ended up doing a whole saga...

I must admit stories based on a true story always seem extra edgy some how, mind you how close they are to the real story is often debatable...
I guess fact is often stranger than fiction.

Can not recommend these enough

if you like historic interpretations the king Arthur series is very good, as it portrays a realistic version.
Generally the the books are so good because of the action, everything I have read (of his about 90% still go the end of the Sharpe series and a few single books to read.) is excellent.

Re: Books you recommend
I'm not a big fan of non-fiction, so if it wows me ... ? Michael Shermer's books are pretty much uniformly great, but if you had to read just one I would recommend "Why People Believe Weird Things." It's very informative and entertaining, and Shermer has no ego whatsoever -- he freely admits to an episode in which he was convinced he was being abducted by aliens, and then methodically breaks down the science behind what actually was happening to his brain at the time
