Re: Johnny VS Anber
Of the seven-person jury, 5 were men, 2 were women. That might have made a difference, since domestic violence tends to go along male/female lines. A lot of domestic disputes are provoked by women, and there was strong evidence of that in this case - Amber is no delicate flower. The jury ranged in age from people in their twenties to a person in his sixties, and were of varying ethnicities.
One juror said in a post-verdict interview that Amber was not credible - that she looked like she was faking it. She would always turn to the jury before answering a question, as if giving a speech, and would cry on cue. She was always crying, as if selling it. She was an actor. Her story was unbelievable.
These are the comments that were on this morning's news. I don't know - the burden of proof was on Depp as plaintiff, and the question was whether she defamed him in a Washington Post Op-Ed article. Turning it into a he said/she said/they said from the stand, seems a little off-point to me as a lawyer. They were judging character on existential testimony, not on whether the Op-Ed that appeared in the Washington Post was defamatory. The latter was the real question. Finally, they must determine if Heard published each of the statements with actual malice.
Of course, truth is the essence of defamation. So, they were allowed to go into the truth of the matter. Basically, it was relevant. But it seemed a little demonstrative!
