Besides, they start fires. In a region where wild fires actually have a "season", it's reckless indifference to a known danger.

To be totally honest, I’m not enthralled by fireworks. They’re pretty for the first five minutes then...meh.

Can you give your reasons for your answer?
I'm no big fan of fireworks, but I am dubious about some of these claims. For example, if fireworks can scare people and animals the way the OP says, I don't understand why thunderstorms don't do the same thing.

Well, thunderstorms are natural and animals are used to them, the smell of thunder and the sound of it...it’s a natural part of their lives.
Fireworks are not natural and therefore will scare animals and birds.

Because I'm tired of things being banned.
I want to ban banning things.

That's a fair enough point, if we can establish that animals know the difference. I'm really not taking a side on this one, but it is interesting to discuss.
I do feel that things shouldn't be banned unless there's a really good reason to. I would take the stance that a significant disruption to nature and wild animals would be a good reason to at least restrict the use of fireworks.
And before anybody assumes that's because I think government is great and that I love being told what to do and to tell others what to do, it's not -- I just think that it's cruel to antagonise a living being for the sake of entertainment.

So you're applying a blanket value to a unique situation. Banning is bad because banning is bad, because banning is bad.

I kind of agree with you, truth be told. But if animals are suffering for our silly and selfish entertainment purposes, then I’m happy to be rid of them.
The noise gets on my nerves too.

That and I don't think fireworks are really much of a problem.
But yeah, my default position is leave people alone unless you have a damn good reason, and I don't see one in this case.

Re: Should we ban fireworks?
Yes we should ban them for many reasons,
People buy them way before Bonfire night and use them inappropriately.
People get hurt using them.
Animals are frightened by them. also by thunder and lightening.
I had dogs cats and horses which were distressed by fireworks, I used to dread firework night I'd spend my time racing back and fore the dogs and the horses trying to keep them calm, I'd have the radio blaring in the kennels but the smell used to get to the dogs I think. The horse would be running around the paddock, he was ok when I was there but still shivering and distressed especially as I went down one evening to find a firework party in the pub car park which is across the lane from the stable, not only aiming rockets over the paddock but some pillock had attached a couple of catherine wheels to the paddock gate.
Anyway te fireworks are short lived sight wise but are more like mortar bombs in sound these days.

I bet not a lot of people know that England regulates fireworks far LESS than Texas does! In many Texas cities, fireworks are banned outright, while in Essex, it's perfectly legal to buy a shit-ton of fireworks and set them off from your back garden.

Re: Should we ban fireworks?
Yes. Their sales should be confined to big organised events. I'm sick to fucking death of humans being selfish when it comes to animal welfare.

Its a bit mad when you think you have to have licences for firearms, you aren't supposed to walk around with or own a bomb of any kind but t least twice a year the general public can go and buy explosives, small amounts perhaps but explosives all the same.

The video kind of demonstrates what it is. It's an explosive that goes off when struck by a high velocity item like a bullet.

Okay...what’s that got to do with this firework thread and whether they should be banned? Sorry, not getting.

Vintage brought up explosives. Both tannerite and fireworks are explosives, with different means of detonation.

So is tannerite. People go around blowing up things for fun.
I don't think it really has any commercial use.
You buy it in sporting goods stores.
