Re: Most popular films of all time.
I'm the last person to ask because I don't really do movies anymore..
I was drained after I watched Saving Private Ryan.
I was depressed after watching Sophie's Choice, to the point I wouldn't watch Schindler's list when it came out.
The Wizard of Oz held such a special place as a child for me amd so many others that I think it deserves a mention.

They are all brilliant films.
I refused to go to the cinema to watch Schindler's list because I knew I would be traumatised, I watched it on video at home when it was released.

We just rewatched The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. Both excellent films.

None of these would make my top 20.

Me neither. I haven't even heard of a couple of them.

I'm surprised Forrest Gump didn't make it.

Re: Most popular films of all time.
I was watching a film this afternoon called Gallow Walkers. The amount of stabbing to death that went on in it was so bad I turned it off. I mean...no wonder we've got all this bloody knife crime.

Well, he was from the South.
Lets not forget he was named after the first Grand Wizard of the KKK.

Re: Most popular films of all time.
I think the movies that I have enjoyed the most in the last few years
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
Green Book
The Favorite
Any Avengers or Star Wars
Bohemian Rhapsody
Yesterday
Knives Out
I, Tonya
The Post
Black Panther
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Judy
Joker
Darkest Hour
Haven’t seen any of the nominations for this year’s award season but I’m most looking forward to Nomadland, Sound of Metal, Minari and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
TV wise The Queen’s Gambit has been the best thing since Game of Thrones. That show was pretty damn near perfect.

I don't mind a soft southern drawl, I think it was the gormless way he delivered it that got on my nerves.

I loved The Queens Gambit too, Eddie recommended it to me...it was gripping.
Frances McDormand, from your first favourite film is still on top, she has just won another two Oscars.

I think Forrest Gump was a sympathetic metaphor for the south. Dumb as a stone, Gump lucks his way through incident after incident, which brings him to full restoration in a normal son...thank god for Jenny.
The south, with no real talent, has lucked its way, since the civil war, through episode after episode, narrowly avoiding fire, fracture and failure. Its agrarian roots have been kicked out from under it. It has no raison d'être, no local support, as it just...well, RUNS. It has swerved and weaved through life, largely through the tolerant benevolence of the north—in reality, Jenny—and landed unscathed in a senseless patch of turnips.
The south's one downfall is its racism and tendency toward violence, which, unlike Forrest Gump, removes it from the realm of innocence—and is about to pull Jenny's memory, the boy, and all of Greenbow, Alabama, into the pits of hell. But that's the postscript that Winston Groom avoided telling.

I will say something to this effect every time you post such nonsense -- what you don't know or understand about the American South could fill a library.

Let's also not forget that Tom Hanks doesn't do a very good Southern accent.
