Manchester is now the hotbed for catching Covid 19.
With 495 people infected every 100,000, Manchester (my home town) now has the highest rate of infection in the UK.
GMP just announced they have charged more people this weekend with breaking the rules, many having large social gatherings and parties at home, than at any other time since the restrictions were put in place.
Further measures may be put in force in parts of the NW very soon....and I'm sure the only people who will follow them are the ones who are not already ignoring social distancing and mask wearing.

Re: Manchester is now the hotbed for catching Covid 19.
"Manchester is the country's coronavirus hotspot as new data shows it has the highest infection rate of any area in England.
Figures released by Public Health England show the 7-day rate in Manchester has reached 495.6 cases per 100,000 population for the week ending on October 1.
The new high came as infection rates in every Greater Manchester borough were revised upwards after a government computer glitch meant thousands of positive test results were missed.
Public Health England said nearly 16,000 cases - which had not been reported over the previous ten days - had been added to the official data over the weekend.
Although all those who had positive tests were notified, it has been reported that the computer error may have led to delays in the test and trace system.
The glitch also means that local authorities in Greater Manchester - and the public - have not been aware of the true level of infections over the past ten days."

Re: Manchester is now the hotbed for catching Covid 19.
Has he REALLY had the virus or could it be a publicity stunt?
He is 74, fat and doesn't look in particularly good health....yet after a couple of days he is marching around telling everyone who will listen he feels better than he did 20 years ago.
Him announcing that the virus is nothing to be afraid of must be a great comfort to all who have lost loved ones from contracting Corona19.....what an insensitive idiot that man is.

He had a mild case. Not to make light of the virus, but the folks I know that have had it, bounced back pretty quick.
And he was given a host of meds that seem to be pretty effective.
He does seem like he would be at high risk, but maybe he has won the genetic lottery. He may have normal blood pressure, cholesterol and sugar.

210,000 dead in the US as of this morning. It is calculated that at present rates, to reach herd immunity in the US will require 6.4-million deaths...if herd immunity is not a fictitious animal. So far, Covid appears to return despite one's immunity...maybe mutation, maybe immunosuppression.

So, what do we attribute this too?
Why Manchester and not say Liverpool?

Possibly because we have such a huge student number...Five uni's and over 100,000 students, and they have all come at once.
Many of them are now in lockdown because of the infection, but the majority are not, and students being students they will be out and about.

Bullshit!
Here in UK we have had 42,000 deaths and 142,000 hospital admissions... And it is believed that for each hospital admission that there has been at least another 100 actual cases... So by that calculation there has already been about 25% of population to have had it...
When you use the same calculations for USA... There has been 200,000 deaths so far, but USA has 5 times UK deaths number, but also 5 times the total population number of UK... And probably about 700,000 hospital admissions so far... Which equates to something like there having been likely more than 70 million USA cases so far... Which is nearly a quarter of the total USA population...
Herd immunity can be reached at a level of 40% for some illnesses.
And if you calculate what would be 100% of USA population having had virus compared to deaths then that would be nearer 800,000... Not 6.4 million.

Partial, no more than 6 family members to be inside or in garden together....they keep saying it's going to tighten up more soon because the figures here are still o the increase.
Pubs shut at 10pm, table service or takeaway only in restaurants...that might be national now though, tbh I cant keep up with al the changes.

Same as here then. I don’t think it’s working. People are simply leaving the pub and drinking outside together.

What good is a 10 pm closing? Do the authorities think the little buggers only go out and infect people after 10? That's as ridiculous as assuming the little buggers don't cross state lines.

Some of the rules just don't make sense Quill.
Everyone leaving at 10pm just means they, especially the younger ones and the students are congregating in the streets or crowding into supermarkets to stock up on booze to carry on drinking either in parks, open spaces or in large parties at home.
Government justified the 10pm closing as the later people stay in the pubs drinking, the less they care about social distancing....it makes no sense.

Re: Manchester is now the hotbed for catching Covid 19.
The only thing that works is to motivate people to wear masks, and stop congregating indoors, or outdoors in tight groups.
But you've got to motivate the people, not regulate them.

Drinking outside is much safer.
Now if they cram 27 people into a small apartment..........

I'd accept that. But those feather-merchant southerners want to party, and get drunk on the beaches of Florida, Alabama, and the Redneck Riviera.
At some point we have to act responsibly, but crackers don't know the first thing about responsibility. They stopped thinking about 400-years ago.
