Trump tax returns: President paid virtually no income tax, lost tens of millions of dollars
President Donald Trump paid just $750 in federal income taxes the year he ran for president and in his first year in the White House, according to a report Sunday in The New York Times.
Trump, who has fiercely guarded his tax filings and is the only president in modern times not to make them public, paid no federal income taxes in 10 of the past 15 years.
The details of the tax filings complicate Trump’s description of himself as a shrewd and patriotic businessman, revealing instead a series of financial losses and income from abroad that could come into conflict with his responsibilities as president. The president’s financial disclosures indicated he earned at least $434.9 million in 2018, but the tax filings reported a $47.4 million loss.

Re: Trump tax returns: President paid virtually no income tax, lost tens of millions of dollars
President Donald Trump personally holds $421 million in debt and loans that are largely coming due in the next four years, The New York Times reported Sunday after obtaining more than two decades of his long-sought tax returns.
An ongoing audit by the Internal Revenue Service, meanwhile, could cost Trump more than $100 million.
The Times report also revealed that the president’s vast business interests created potential and real conflicts of interest for years and are under more financial stress than the self-described billionaire has previously disclosed.

Obama's wealth was proven to have come from sales of his books.

The New York Times’s explosive report on President Donald Trump’s years of alleged tax avoidance also exposed another secret: the cost of his coif.
The Times says Trump’s unmistakable hairdo is a five-figure affair.
The newspaper reports that when Trump hosted “The Apprentice,” he wrote off $70,000 in hairstyling costs; and that nine Trump entities have written off payments of close to $95,000 for “a favorite hair and makeup artist of Ivanka Trump.”

The Times also said he has used “questionable measures” to reduce his tax bill. He faced a possible hit of “more than $100m” if he lost “a decade-long audit battle with the IRS over the legitimacy of a $72.9m tax refund that he claimed, and received, after declaring huge losses”.
It promised more stories in the coming weeks, adding: “The tax returns that Mr Trump has long fought to keep private tell a story fundamentally different from the one he has sold to the American public.”

This might prove two things that some of us have known for years. Politicians write tax codes that have loopholes for the wealthy, in exchange for donations and other perks from the wealthy.
Secondly, Trump isn't nearly as wealthy or successful as he has led on.
I say "might" because the media cant be trusted to only share stories they can verify anymore.
They have become advocates for politicians and ideologies instead of simply the truth.

Amazon and Costa are not presidents. They are corporations. Only individuals may run for office in the US. Public corporations have to publish their records, individuals do not.
The $421-million that Trump owes (probably understated, as he is wont to do on tax returns per his attorney), is leverage that makes him susceptible to blackmail. In fact, it probably accounts for his sycophancy toward Russia and Vladimir Putin, clearly evident in Helsinki in July, 2018.
$421-million is very near the original sum that is alleged to have been loaned to Trump initially through the Deutsche Bank, Moscow branch. See, Harding, Luke, Collusion: Secret Meetings, Dirty Money, and how Russia Helped Donald Trump Win (2017).
Something is rotten in Den…no, Moscow.

No. No allegations have been made against Obama and Biden. And investigators have looked into Clinton and found nothing. All three are clean as a whistle.

"In March 2017, journalist [and attorney] David Cay Johnston obtained the first two pages of Trump's 2005 federal income tax returns; they were disclosed to Rachel Maddow and shown on MSNBC. The document states that Trump had a gross adjusted income of $150 million and paid $38 million in federal taxes. The White House confirmed the authenticity of these documents."

Not quite. The entire investigation of a person’s financial wrongdoing involves a host of laws, and a host of documents. Primarily the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and Federal Reserve System (FRS) are interested…perhaps other agencies as well. Only infrequently, and by chance, do they share information. So no one is focusing on an individual’s complete financial profile to check for inconsistancies.
The allegation is that Trump lied and understated income on his tax returns, but lied and overstated worth to obtain bank loans. Both acts are against the law. So, there are several laws, and multiple documents to review. In the unique case of Donald Trump, only a public review will find all of the crimes.
The Tax Returns are the starting point. In 2016, Trump chose to make tax returns the 'Custer's last stand' in his fight to keep his finances secret. The tax returns give one a roadmap of his financial picture, as well as any tax cheating. But only with cross-referencing the several documents in back-up will one find the cheating in all and every area of the law.
So no, gelico, nothing is "in order". The investigation has only just begun with release of the tax returns.

If he doesn't go to jail. He will likely pardon himself of federal crimes, but the state of New York and the City of New York are going after him for fraud in the use of his trust. States of California, Oregon and Washington are right behind.
If he lies in bankruptcy court, or tries to support his position by the false documents he has used in taxes or in obtaining credit, that will be after-pardon conduct resulting in perjury.
Even if he behaves as an angel, he is still insolvent. He owes more than he owns. His estate will be sold off, and he will be on the street, like any other bankrupt. He's not entitled to special consideration.

It's only "weird" these days to speak the truth. A personal bankruptcy with an insolvent person will leave that person with only his spare change and personal effects (clothes, a book or two, and perhaps a vehicle if it is not too expensive). Trump will do anything to avoid that result.
Problem is, he will be abandoned (for non-payment of fees) by his accountants and lawyers. They are his armament. He will be reduced to a bum sleeping in the gutter. He may not be able to avoid it. A bankruptcy can be filed by a creditor or group of creditors; when a person no longer has any assets that's how banks do it. Deutsche Bank (Putin and the Russian angels) will not hesitate. He will be stripped like a carcass, left as bones to bleach in the sun.
This is why his former attorney says "he will do anything, even start a war, to avoid it!" Trump was a trust baby, and he has as much understanding of the real world as a Persian princess. He will be cold and helpless when he is tossed out into the snow. Spending his remaining life in a prison will be a godsend.

He does debate Quill, it's just you he has a problem being civil with, and vice versa.

I've never heard him espouse an original idea. The closest I’ve heard him come is to import something he has heard from one of his pro-fascist, southern website visits.
I've honestly tried to debate the libertarian issue with him, and he refuses to go into any detail. He will espouse surficial sentiments of libertarianism, but when one raises ideological difficulties with the theory, he goes directly into trash mode. Hence, I have concluded he is afraid of an honest debate. Most RW’ers are like that…they think in terms of jingo’s, and when you start to dissect ideas they go all squirrely.
However, Red’s unique response is to pivot to personal insults, which not only does not beg a response, but pulls one into trash mode. I usually just point out the diversion and go on my way, concluding he has tacitly abandoned his point. Which is too bad, because at times even I can think of responses to my own argument. But you can’t continue when one party wants to go all ugly.

I debate and am civil with every single poster on every forum save one.
The problem isn't with me.
I insult no one, but you.
Think about that.
And as long as you continue to fabricate and lie, I'll stay ugly with you and be civil with everyone else.
You get from me exactly what you deserve.

What a load of Bullshite. The reason why you insult me is, I am the only one left on the site who is a LW'er. If there were others, you would be playing the same game with them.
Because you cannot reason, you have no ability to debate. Because you have no ability to debate, you talk trash and personal animosity. It's simple.

If I play along with the label game, I lean to the left as does Eddie....probably others do too.But tbh I think it's closed minded to dwell on which side people vote or support.....it's more interesting to listen to what they say about various topics.

I insult you because you lie and fabricate. It's really that simple.
I mean it's been two years since I first called you Walter Mitty. You got that name for a reason.
The sad thing is, you're bright and intelligent and have no need to make things up, yet you do.

No, you attack because you can't debate. It's a diversion for you.

Well, you asked. If I didn't answer, you would be all over me. And, if I didn't tell the truth, you would jump on that.
My only recourse is to be short, sweet and truthful.

Interesting that mere days since this news broke, we're now all talking about the president’s latest viral infection...

It could be a diversion, but it's going from the frying pan into the fire. His big issue going into the campaign was the economy, which was tanked by Covid-19. Now, his mishandling of the pandemic augers against him as the economy sinks.
He draws attention to the pandemic if he goes all, po lil me, I'se sick. He's capable of taking the 'pity-pulpit', but susceptible to the argument...hey, you brought on yourself, numb-nutz!

I actually just wanted to insinuate that this is only the latest in a long history of viral infections suffered by the president, to be fair. But yes, it may be a distraction from issues that are more important, but it's not a distraction that helps him in any way.
