Re: I feel much safer now.
Now, regarding LW versus RW debate ....
The acid test is empathy. As simple as that!
............. the comments SOME posters made regarding the political protests against police brutality - those comments were very harsh, self centred, and unkind.
I regard such people as right wing, I don't give a shit who they vote for. If you see people demonstrating about brutal police murders and you make unsympathetic comments that are devoid of all understanding, that makes you a right winger, imo.
Yes there were some looters and some violent people but it's pathetic to use a few bad apples as an excuse to criticise all those protesters. Just my opinion!!

Another thing .... i have a feeling Trump might win a second term, cuz he is determined to win and he will do whatever it takes - including extreme / illegal measures. If voters give him another victory - they deserve him, frankly!
How are y'all doing anyway?
Where is Cass? I miss reading her posts. Wonderful lady!
Anyway, that was my October visit, See y'all in November, stay safe.

Being dragged off is never nice to see. Very bad optics!
But ...... crucially .... this encounter did NOT result in a death or a beating or anything.
The political protests in the Summer were because people were being frequently KILLED by cops, not just dragged off.
Massive, massive difference, dude!!!
I wasnt comparing them.

for you. Very astute observations. Empathy is the factor. One can imagine a continuum with high empathy on one end, and zero empathy at the other end. That would define the difference between RW and LW.
But don't confuse this with other things, like affability or friendliness. After all, even RW'ers flock together, party, and enjoy each other’s company. They have empathy in their lack of empathy for certain others.
Empathy is the ability to wear another person's shoes, and imagine being in their situation. I have a great deal of empathy for blacks; I don't imagine a RW'er has any. Black skin is, for me, a human being who has an alternative feature than me; black skin for a RW’er is an “other”, which is to say, one with whom the RW’er does not empathize.
Incidentally, that’s the reason why the ‘we/they’ dichotomy is referred to so much these days. “They” = “Not of our kind”, although it depends on context. 'They' is just a linguistic device, but it turns up today in so many RW conversations that it has distinguished itself. Trump, for example, continually speaks of people of color as 'they', 'them' or 'those'--words indicating distinction and difference.

Like you speak of Americans in different areas of the country?

That is attitudinal, not based upon a chance of birth. Black skin, like blue eyes, is something that the person can't help. Bigotry and racism is a choice.
The Americans of which you speak are southerners...the ones who made a living off of slavery, and today have a society dependent on having a social strata or status of black people beneath them. They typically kill (ie, lynching) to maintain that situation.

Re: I feel much safer now.
So Quill and Jules completely glossed over the part where eddie said, several times I believe, that the killing of George Floyd was a tragedy and that protest is warranted.
That she said that people looting and rioting at some of the protests was undermining the message wasn't a right-wing thing to say, it was simply true.

Yes, just like when people generalise about all Russians being child traffickers.
As Quill did.
Your post doesn’t make much sense to be honest. One can criticise something but it has no bearing on their political stance. You’ll have to be more clear.

But if you don’t totally and utterly love black people for everything and anything you are RIGHT WING!
Ps. (It’s okay if you slag off ALL Russians though...)

Well, you pretty much hit the nail right on the head with that.
Quill deems you a right-winger because instead of parroting positions that some of today's lefties consider gospel, you point out when some lefty causes or movements have problems.
In other words, you don't toe the party line 100 percent of the time, so you must be a closet Trump supporter

On the other hand, I am a political scientist and you are not. I appreciate that you are very close to the subject, but that also probably means that you are too close to recognize the indicators. As sweet as I'm sure eddie is, she has reflexes that indicate an immediate and strong pull to the right.
As I say, that's not a bad thing. It just is... My parents, now deceased, were Republicans. My sister still is. Left or right, it has nothing to do with a person's affability.
Dude, I haven't said you're being insulting, only that you're wrong.
Fine. That settled, I have merely said that according to all indicators, eddie takes stands that indicate a RW conservative.
What indicators? Can you tell us what ideas Eddie has that confirm her to be without doubt a RW conservative?
I struggle to think of any, off the top of my head. But since you say 'all', should be easy to put right.
He can’t so he won’t.

Re: I feel much safer now.
I dont get this labelling culture that seems to have sprung up suddenly.
It's as if some people can only relate to others if they think like themselves.
