Today I gave my dad a choice. Empty Today I gave my dad a choice.

Post by Maddog Tue Sep 22, 2020 2:54 pm

I wrote earlier about trying to express my reasons to my dad in a calm and intellectual manner. I actually thought I had been calm and well-reasoned. I thought I might even be making progress.
Today I found out he put a Trump sign in his yard.

I got pissed. Really pissed. And I sent him and my mom a text message. Hands shaking, tears in eyes. This is what it said:

Due to the signs in the yard, the kids and I will not be down. The current occupant of the White House is preaching hate and violence, endangering the lives and safety of many of my friends. This is not acceptable to me at all. There is a complete disregard for women, minorities, science, ethics, and morality. Please consider if you support Trump that much. Because I hate him that much. I wanted to be upfront and honest about my feelings.

And then I went for a walk to calm down. And the more I thought about it, the more I agreed with the message. At this point, it is not acceptable to me. You can vote for whom you wish. But I can choose who I surround myself with. I love my dad, but I can’t be around him until he understands how vital I believe this election to be and what is truly at stake. It is not easy. But it was necessary. Now to see what fallout occurs.

I cant imagine having a son who gets tears in his eyes over how a person votes. I would feel like a failure as a father. To withhold grandchildren for something like this is pathetic.

I agree it's pathetic.
To fall out over politics to such an extent as to deprive a grandad from seeing his grandkids, and the grandkids form seeing their grandfather, which can be one of the most precious relationships a child can have, is total over reaction.

Yeah, I have a niece who has had the same conversation with her mother (my sister voted for Trump, "but only 'because his opponent was a woman").

But, hell, all the guy is doing is protecting his children from exposure to heinous ideas. Parents have a duty to shield their children from porn and gruesome scenes, and Trump presents both. If granpa is going to talk about Trump, there's nothing to talk about but pussy and prostitutes, and how all Mexicans are 'rapists, criminals and drug dealers'.

Children should be of a certain age before they should be made to process such thoughts.

RE the OP... that sounds just like the attitude of many labour supporters over here in UK... they can be so self righteous and preachy from up on their "moral high ground"... spewing their hatred at anyone who dares to disagree.

They think they are justified with their hatred but they just look like sad bitter and twisted fuckwits!

Wow, you've gone all flowery on us, tom.  Remember, it's just a parent keeping his children away from shock and porn.  If granpa molested his daughter, would you be equally unconcerned?

Really.  Nothing to see here, folks.

What does molestation have to do with this?

That's a perverted crime, not a political position.

With Trump, there is a new normal...a repositioning of boundaries. Certain politics, today, come close to pornography. They don't just give speeches anymore, they "grab pussies" and pay off porn stars. Who knows what happened to Jeffery Epstein, and Katie Johnson claims she was underaged at the time.

Not the stuff for properly raised children.

Lol...but, it's not about me. You post the OP and then change the subject of your own thread?? Didn’t you read your own OP? No wonder you lose all debates on this site.

Go back and re-read the OP. When I’m satisfied you are familiar with the subject, then we’ll talk.

Or just protecting your children. These are new times, and they call for new measures. Who wants their children exposed to grabbing pussy and porn stars? One could get an OSC for less.

I can understand where this man is coming from. It takes a certain kind of person to ignore a person like Trump's history and insist he's a good person, a Christian, guided by God, etc.

I get that some people really, REALLY like Trump, and it's their right, of course. But for me, it's a bit like 1984: you're supposed to believe the exact opposite of what your brain tells you, and I wouldn't want my kids exposed to that form of muddled thinking too much.

My stepdaughter, for example, might end up being one of those women who stand by their man even though it's obvious he's cheating on her. I want her to trust herself and to help her develop the tools she needs to keep from being fooled by others and by herself.

The dad never said he was a good person. I know plenty of people that will vote for Trump and tell you he's not a good person. People often vote for people they don't think are very good people.

My side, whatever that is, does not do it. Not in my home, anyway.

Trump is a New Yorker. Half of his language comes from organized crime (the Trump family is associated with the Gambino crime family), and half of his language comes from his associations with the human trafficking and prostitution trade, heavy with the Russian rackets. We are certainly not used to hearing it in the White House.

But, it's just illustrative of the changing values since 2016...both in language, and institutions. I got news for you...it's coming to your neighborhood, whether you like it or not. It's the new normal.
