Greenland ice sheet lost a record 1m tonnes of ice per minute in 2019
Climate-driven loss is likely to be the worst for centuries, and is pushing up sea levels
The Greenland ice sheet lost a record amount of ice in 2019, equivalent to a million tonnes per minute across the year, satellite data shows.
The climate crisis is heating the Arctic at double the rate in lower latitudes, and the ice cap is the biggest single contributor to sea level rise, which already imperils coasts around the world. The ice sheet shrank by 532bn tonnes last year as its surface melted and glaciers fell into the ocean and would have filled seven Olympic-sized swimming pools per second.
The satellite data has been collected since 2003. The 2019 loss was double the annual average since then of 255bn tonnes. Almost that amount was lost in July 2019 alone.

While we (meaning humanity) keep fighting over whether this is happening or what's causing it, we're really screwing ourselves.

And some might say there’s no such thing as Global warming

The only real solution is a drastic cut in population. As I can't see that happening, unless corona gets much more aggressive, it'll have to be drastic birth control.

I read recently that if we were to dust crops in several major countries with powdered basalt, which is a plentiful rock, that would absorb as much co2 as Germany and Japan emit every year. Not only that, basalt fertilizes crops, meaning more farm productivity.
The state of Texas has the capacity to generate enough wind power to provide electricity for the entire United States.
There are solutions to global warming all around. We can now construct much safer nuclear reactors than the ones built in the 60s and 70s, and we need to do it.
Elon Musk has already designed long-haul electric trucks/lorries.
Really, we just need to fucking do it, do it now, and do it regardless of what the fossil fuel companies say or do.
