Patrons found hiding in cupboards of English pub that was raided for serving customers during lockdown
Customers were found hiding in cupboards after officers raided a pub suspected of breaching coronavirus lockdown regulations, police have said.
Officers went to the Pitsmoor Hotel, Sheffield, on Friday after receiving a tip-off from a member of the public that the pub was still serving its customers.
Police said they found drinkers hiding in cupboards.
Pubs, restaurants and non-essential shops were told to close on March 23 as the UK entered a nationwide lockdown in an attempt to slow the spread of Covid-19. Pub owners that ignore the lockdown order and remain open can be given a prohibition notice and fined.

That works, Ben.
You wonder...alcoholics must have their medicine. As long as they keep a safe distance from their mates...and no fighting, dancing, or carrying on, etc.

Eddie and I like our drink, but we obey the rules and buy our booze from the grocery store!
Though to be fair, if we knew about a pub that was secretly still open, we might have been tempted ... we're a bit evil that way

I know. But if you live alone, a pub becomes your drawing room, and your mates become your family. You drink and chat each other up, before heading on to dinner.
I don't frequent pubs anymore, but I've done it enough in my lifetime to understand.

Not following social distancing could very well leave yourself open to the virus and in turn leave vulnerable people and people who are self isolating open to catching the virus from idiots who are too bloody selfish to follow the rules.
It really annoys me.

I agree with you. The people who want to open society to mixing and mingling are RW'ers. And they want it due to their affinity to capitalism. When society shuts down, it's about the only way that the workers can hurt the capitalists. That is the logic of strikes.
But in this case, it's for a righteous cause...saving lives. The capitalists pay lip service to life/death consequences, but what they really say is, take the hit...sacrifice the lives for cash. I'll be on my yacht!

HA! I used to belong to an online Sheffield group made up of people around your age. My friend invited me to join. Never met a bigger bunch of racist and hard right wing people in my life. I soon dropped out.

But, Vic, they were a small contingent of Tories that had been meeting in that pub for the past 20-years. They were afraid of the majority labourites, and even some of their wives were socialists. So they hid out in the cupboards by day, and emerged at night to drink and toast the strawman's new baby.
Alas, they were caught by leftist cops, who are holding them on felony murder charges for killing a bottle of Tobermory salt-water whiskey. Tories drink port, not salt-water whiskey. Anyone knows that.
