Happy belated St. George's Day!
Don't know why the day for the country that gave the world so much isn't celebrated more, but whatever.
Here's to the country that gave us all our fucking language, how about that?
I posted a message on Facebook on the day of, but just forgot to come over here to make a post.

Just to throw out some random things I love or like about England:
My wife.
My stepkids.
My best friends.
The Beatles.
Harry Potter.
Dr. Who.
Oasis.
Douglas Adams.
The Sex Pistols.
Soccer (or if our English members prefer, I'll call it "English football" but not just "football" because it's not the only "football")
Tesco.
Blur.
Gorillaz.
Jelly Babies (especially the blackcurrant ones).
Brown sauce.
The phrase "Go on, then."
And much, much more.

Surely I'm not alone in that. The fact that they aren't sold in America is a travesty and a sin, up with which the American people ought no longer to put.

He’s not entirely keen on crumpets and I only allow bacon to be eaten in moderation in our house.
He’s not happy about it. Sulks a bit.

That is a good list of likes there Ben...!
I notice you put Blur and Gorillaz on your list... they are on my list too...
Was just wondering if you knew that the Blur front man Damon Albarn was also the main creator and front man of Gorillaz too...?
And if its Albarn that you like, then you may be interested in a later musical collaboration he was in called "The good, the bad and the queen"...
"...The Good, the Bad & the Queen is a supergroup composed of singer Damon Albarn of Blur and Gorillaz, bassist Paul Simonon of the Clash, guitarist Simon Tong of the Verve, and Fela Kuti drummer Tony Allen..."

What do you think of Radiohead?

Re: Happy belated St. George's Day!
Sorry it took me so long to reply! I did know that about Blur and Gorillaz; I think Albarn has a great voice. Probably a bit more into Blur, but there are a lot of Gorillaz songs I quite like. But I've never heard of the Good, Bad & Queen -- I'll have to check them out.
I'm also a big fan of Radiohead; "Paranoid Android" is one of my favorite songs.

Tommy, when Ben first came to England he insisted upon having a “Beatles night”
It was torture.

Okay, I didn't want to go on a rant ... but I came to England and instead of listening to the Beatles and eating pie and mash, I'm listening to fucking REM and going out for Mediterranean food!
That would be like going to Texas and not listening to Willie Nelson or eating Tex-Mex!
Re: Happy belated St. George's Day!
I love Radiohead... seen them a few times... Love the raw guitar based indie/rock style stuff as well as the other styles they played around with over the years...
Front man Thom Yorke has also done some solo stuff... Plus he was involved in a supergroup collaboration called "atoms for peace" with red hot chili peppers bassist "flea"... Which is pretty good too...
And sorry Eds... I love the Beatles too... Although prefer the later stuff rather than the early pop/boy band stuff... But having said that, I still rate loads of the early stuff...
I was roped into playing bass last year as part of a family band at my sisters wedding party... We played about 25 tracks in all... And one of these tracks was Beatles "Day tripper" which was a roaring success with the crowd...!
I've got a vid of it that someone filmed on their phone... Maybe I'll get round to posting it up on YouTube or something, and post up a link on here... Most amusing!

That's awesome! You can ask edds, most of the songs I know on guitar are either Beatles or Oasis. I'm like you, I prefer everything from Rubber Soul onward, but it's still hard to knock the likes of Hard Day's Night.
I love that Thom Yorke song Atoms for Peace, by the way, though I'd never heard of the supergroup.
One song eddie was impressed that I'd heard is "King of the Kerb" by Echobelly. I was heavy into what in America was termed Britpop in the 90s -- I checked out Elastica, Suede, Pulp, etc. Eddie hates Pulp but I think "Common People" is brilliant, and "Sorted for E's and Whiz" is really funny
Also used to play Billy Bragg's "Back to Basics" all the time, I love "New England."
Also, did I mention Sex Pistols? My best friend in high school played Never Mind the Bollocks for me at her house when I was 14 or 15 and it was the most threatening album I'd ever heard.

I've managed to put that vid up on YouTube... Anyone who wants to see it should PM me and I'll give you the link...

Pretty good! I think you’re pretty steady on the bass. If Ben and I ever get an original band together we will give you a call
