Obama for president...?
Miss the old days? Miss when someone with wisdom and talent was in the White House? Could we use an Obama again?
You know...Obama could always run as vice-president. If you read the U.S. Constitution literally, a president who served two terms could serve as vice president and become president if the current president stepped down. In fact, John Quincy Adams ran and won a seat in the House of Representatives...had he become Speaker of the House, he would have been third in line for the presidency. Theodore Roosevelt ran for a third term in 1912, since he was only vice-president when McKinley died.
The longest time any one person can serve as the president of the United States, technically, would be ONE DAY LESS THAN 10 years. In other words, the vice president could become president the day after the elected president had been in office for two full years. In theory then, January 21st of the second year of the presidency. But we needn't be so particular.
In these days of precedent-setting by Trump, anything could happen. WTF...loosen up the guard rails. Obama could run as vice-president, and simply flip-flop (functionally) with Biden for the job. Or, Biden could retire after two years. Or--thinking expansively--why not appoint Obama as Attorney General or Secretary of State, and leave to him the running of the government. Biden could relax in his dotage, and play golf as Trump does.
Without wishing any ill on Biden, I doubt he will finish his first term.

I think Michelle Obama should have run. Despite being hounded once because I said she looked like a man, I have always said she’s be a fabulous president.
Still feel that way.

Re: Obama for president...?
Meh...In my opinion, Obama was the best president we've ever had...sandwiched in between the two competitors for 'worst president'.
Obama had it all: Columbia University, Harvard Law School, President of Law Review, brilliant professor of Constitutional Law, at one of the finest universities in the world, outstanding public speaker, highly analytical thinker, decent citizen, husband and father, appointed (and kept) quality people, delegated authority well, amazing strategist, internationally and nationally--who played Republicans (who controlled both Houses) like a fiddle--told truth, played basketball, and had supreme koolness.
Amazing how he pulled the country out of our second Great Depression, put the economy on it's present course (BT: before Trumpvirus), ended the Iraq War...and he nailed bit Laden!
Look at the mess this doofus has us in. Wouldn't we love to have Obama again.

The short...or nickname for Michelle is Mitch, which is the same for Michael. I know that Michelle Phillips' husband, John Phillips, always referred to her as Mitch.
I've never heard any substantiation for Barack calling her Michael, but it might be a term of endearment. I knew a beautiful woman, whom to friends was called 'Freddy'...for Fredrika.

I thought you said you were looking for intelligent debate - making cheap ad hom jibes directed at an innocent woman is as low as you can go and as far removed from ''intelligent'' debate as it's possible to get.
You are a troll and a liar - Obama is very polite and very respectful of everyone, especially his own wife, and he'd never address her by a masculine name, it was vocally dubbed in, the way a photoshop is visually dubbed in.
If you want to talk about a president who speaks disrespectfully about women - you know ''locker room banter'' - two guesses!!

Actually, U.S. unemployment is as high as it was during the Great Depression, with about 13 percent unemployment -- haven't you been keeping up?

Obama inherited a second Great Depression from the Republicans in 2009. He turned the economy around miraculously, Trump being the beneficiary of Obama's brilliance.
God know what mess Trump has made of all that largess today. Trump doesn't even want to look at the numbers...just like the Trumpvirus.
I think there is a reason why he doesn't read. Probably a habit he picked up between his 4th and 6th bankruptcies.

Biden could pick her for a running mate.
If he wins, I don't see how he finishes one term. He's losing it fast. She could become President when he gets put in the retirement home.

That's on my mind, too. Look to whomever Biden picks as VP, to be the president of the future.
Again, Michelle doesn't like politics or anything about the subject.
Barack Obama would be a brilliant choice. There is a dearth of good candidates on both sides, at present. Such a maneuver would put the most popular man right back in the White House. As far as the rules...well Trump has set the precedent for ignoring codes and the Constitution, these days. It no longer matters.
These days you write your own ticket...try executive order, and then if that doesn't work, try a National Emergency. A vice-president is a lot more important than a wall.

I actually liked Obama, he was a ray of light in a dark mess, and by any measure streets ahead of the ferret wearing orangutan (see i can see good in "some leftys") but he was to an extent not tough enough or hard enough on the international stage.....but hey...you cant have everything.
he was not only a good president but i got the feeling he was a genuinely "good man"
and a bit like him, i think Boris is basically a good chap....and likes to be seen as such, I only hope his desire to be seen as "good and decent" doesnt impair his ability to do the job

I don't think he has as much money as one might think. His Chicago Trump Tower got him into trouble to the tune of $460-million. (He guaranteed the loan personally.)
The lender sued him, and he was bailed out by an anonymous patron of the Moscow branch of Deutsche Bank. See, Luke Harding, Collusion (2017). Only Trump knows who gave him that money (and some $200-million more), but he (Trump) is quite deferential whenever Vlad Putin comes into the room.
I reckon that is why Trump is hiding his tax returns. We'll know soon.

I appreciate your candor, Vic. But, recall Obama was facing a Republican Senate and a Republican House in his second term.
Only the House, constitutionally, can give authority for any military engagements, and indeed Obama sent over, and has had a war bill for Syria on the Senate desk since February 11, 2015. The McConnell Senate has refused even to take it up.

You seem to think having money--as opposed to generating it--is deserving of the merit badge. The Trumps are a New York organized crime family...and still there are those six failures. Trump could fuck up a wet dream.
What is "wonderful" is the Russian angel who bailed Trump out. Of course, it's just a dangle, and Trump will eventually be shown to be a dupe. Really, we should run Putin for the Republican President, if adroitness with money and political savvy are the measures.

Aside from the six-figure pension he receives as a former president, Obama has made millions from speaking engagements and his best-selling books.

Re: Obama for president...?
It's funny how things have changed. When Harry Truman left office he went home to Missouri and was living in near poverty. That's why they came up with a presidential pension. Kind of embarrassing to have a former president living like poor retiree.
No worries of that anymore. Even crooked politicans retire well after all of the perks.

Books and speaking fees.
He may sit on some corporate boards too, like Hillary does or did.
A former president carries a great deal of influence and they are very valuable.

Dr. Obama was a simple, hard-working dude before 2001. After that, he began to receive notice...and make money.
Dr. Obama kept the money he made from his first book, Dreams From My Father (1995), and his law career, and invested in three different assets in 2004. Throughout his public career he has always made his tax returns available to the public.
First asset was was the Illinois State Senate Pension Fund, which Obama listed as worth something between $50,000 and $100,000.
Second, Dr. Obama had investments in the Vanguard Wellington Fund, which he evaluated as worth between $100,000 and $200,000. The Wellington Fund consists of around 60 to 70 percent stocks and 30 percent to 40 percent bonds and is essentially a fundamental mutual fund.
Then, third, he signed a huge book deal after the 2004 Democratic National Convention. After giving the keynote address at the 2004 convention as a candidate for Senate — The speech, "The Audacity of Hope," was a huge success that propelled Obama's popularity upwards in the years before his presidential campaign — Dr. Obama followed up with a number of book deals with Random House.
The Random House connection is his real money. His return from these inspirational books is in the millions. He doesn't do much public speaking; his retirement from politics is typical among post-sitting presidents. Dr. Obama is estimated to be worth about $70-million today.

All Presidents do it, no matter what party they are from.
I think, although I may have to do more research when I have time, that Ulysses Grant was the first to make big bucks for publishing his memoirs.
Of course lots of previous presidents made money by owning slaves and plantations. Then there was Taft who went on to the Supreme Court, and John Quincy Adams went back to the House, and Hoover/FDR/Kennedy were wealthy already among others.

I think it's because he's not quite as wealthy as he claims to be, and doesn't want people knowing that.

There is a very pregnant embarrassment in the history of Trump's finances. In the early two-thousands he was about to go bankrupt, this time personal bankruptcy, over his Chicago Trump Tower project. His credit was so bad that he had to personally guarantee his construction loan, for the first time ever. That meant that his personal assets would be up for grabs should he go south.
When the Chicago Trump Tower entity defaulted, the lender demanded Trump make good on his personal guarantee. The lender sued Trump in 2008, and Trump counter-sued for one of his bogus fraud claims. As the case proceeded to trial, suddenly a strange offer came through.
Moscow branch of the Deutsche Bank has a two-tier system, one for regular account-holders and one for anonymous, privileged account-holders. An anonymous angel who banked at the privileged window of the Moscow branch of the Deutsche Bank, told the bank officers to contact Trump and offer to buy his (Trump's) entire debt. Deutsche Bank was to transact the deal. The offer later expanded to offer some $200-million more, as Trump went on a wild spending spree. The anonymous angel was apparently quite generous.
After, Trump went to Moscow, where he held his Miss World Pageant, and allegedly had his infamous 'yellow rain' party with prostitutes in the Ritz Carlton-Moscow hotel...which allegedly was filmed. When Trump met with Putin in Helsinki in July 2018, Trump appeared to be quite red-faced and chastened. He took Putin's side on everything, including things that were contradicted by his own intelligence people. See, Luke Harding, Collusion (2017).
The thread that will undo the entire stitching is, who is the anonymous angel who banks at the Moscow branch of Deutsche Bank? Since Trump (as with any taxpayer) must identify sources of money to the Internal Revenue System, presumably the answer will be in his tax returns. If not, the IRS could go after him criminally...that's what happened to Al Capone, when he couldn't/wouldn’t disclose the source of his income.
Trump has received a lot of pressure to release his tax returns, both during the election and through his years as president. There must be something pretty revealing in those tax returns, for him to take such heat. His excuse is totally bogus...he says: his election proves no one is interested. The IRS is sworn to confidentiality, but New York State is hot on the trail...it's in litigation.
