Switzerland overtakes Italy as the most infected
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/
You have to go to the far fight column and toggle the arrows for ascending and descending order. You also have to ignore tiny places like the Faroe Islands as they dont have a large enough sample size.
But it's still very odd to me how severe the problem is in Europe compared to the rest of the world.
Look at the nations with the highest rates and where they are.

Right now, with lack of testing here in the states, I don’t trust those numbers. I feel we will see a big surge in the next two weeks.

Take the US out of the equation. Europe is still getting clobbered exponentially harder than even the Asian countries.

I think there’s a hell of a lot more in the Asian county than is being reported. With much larger populations than most European countries and a bigger land mass, it’s going to be hard to get people tested. Or have reliable information for death certificates.

I trust the numbers coming out of Japan, Hong Kong and S. Korea. Even Singapore. These are modern, developed countries. This virus is hammering Europe harder than any place on the planet.

I spoke too soon. Italy has retaken the lead.
On a positive note, the number of deaths has decreased two days in a row in Italy.
On a negative note, Spain is seeing increasing fatalities every day, and are looking on track to become the next disaster nation.

Switzerland is such a small country...
That if all of its citizens practiced "social distancing" at the same time, they would be falling off their mountains, and tumbling over into Germany, Italy, France and Austria..
As for the high rates in Italy, Spain, Iran, and now Switzerland, as I've suggested before, the health officials would/should be looking to the genetics, and any common links making their populations more susceptible and vulnerable ?
P.S. Don't eat bats; and stop hoarding those toilet rolls..

At this point, it’s all just a waiting game. Hopefully by going into Lockdown the UK figures will slow but I personally think it’s too late now. It will be the same for us too because even now, the orange thing is talking about lifting restrictions. He’s only worried about how he’ll be connected to this and the economy tanking. He gives zero fucks about people dying.

Most of the restrictions are done at the state and local level, as they should be. Even here in Texas, we have 254 counties. Over 200 haven't had a case and may never have one. Meanwhile Dallas County is on a lock down more or less.
And I think the economy will be the biggest thing we remember from this event. It's going to be devastating. I talked to my mom yesterday as she keeps calling and asking if I'm OK. I told her she may be one of the few Americans to live through two great depressions.

Bullshite. Do you think a disease asks permission to pass into Oklahoma or Louisiana? This is a pandemic, and should treated by the highest authorities, with the widest scope of authority.

Remember? Yes. But never forget, this was a medical problem before it was an economic one.
In this country the failure is all due to the lack of preparedness and regulation-cancelling. Indeed, this administration even disbanded the Pandemic Response Team of the NSA. No telling how much damage it did to the CDC.

That’s the greatest worry. We just don’t know if it will creep into our states/counties. I hope I’m wrong and you’re right but it’s out of our control now. And if you look at all of the fucking idiots partying on the beaches or out in parks or in our case lakes, you’ll see why I think we will have more serious numbers to come.
I hope your mom is ok and staying indoors.

My mom is in lockdown as she is in assisted living. She hasn't been out of her room in 10 days. She is a good example of how one size doesn't fit all. There is no need to seclude me in my bedroom. I'm not 89 with COPD.
Same goes for a rural county with 20,000 people vs an urban one with 2 million people.
Not saying this applies to you, but a lot of city dwellers seem to forget there is a whole different world out there much different than the one they live in.
Cant treat them the same.

The trick (according to the WHO anyway) is to test, test, test. These lock downs can buy some time, but they are only temporary. You cant shut down the economy long and not have massive problems. Testing people and getting those that test positive away from people, while letting those that test negative alone (to work and run businesses) will be far more effective. That's what S Korea did. It's sorta what Japan did. It's not what the Italians or Spaniards have done.
Stop assuming everyone has it, and figure out who in the hell actually does and then keep yanking them from society.

For the record, S Korea has 120 deaths total.
Italy is over 6000.
Probably should be looking at what S Korea did.

Fatdog is determined to prove just what a selfish and uncaring 'libertarian' arse he is at heart.
Need only look at his priorities here :
* declares the economy his prime worry -- over and above the disease itself;
* looks to any puerile excuses to defend Team Trump's tardiness and incompetence;
* only thinks about himself, and his nearest and dearest >>>> everyone else can go hang, especially the unemployed, pensioners, the poor, and the disabled;
* and then the fat-headed turd sees fit to launch unwarranted attacks against others on here..

Yeah, but you or I could test negative for it today, only to go out and get infected a week from now. Don't see how that's the solution.

Xactly, that is the static approach, when Covid-19 is a dynamic disease, on the move constantly. There are carriers who have no idea they have it, and could be spreading it along their path...totally silently.

You could, but that's how the S Koreans are doing it. They are using probability to target those most likely to have it. Then when they find someone who has it, they work back through the people that may were contacted, and then they test them. The positives are quarantined, the negatives released to go play. They keep doing that every day, and it works. 120 total deaths.
Obviously it wont catch all of them. Nothing will. Just like speed limits don't stop all traffic fatalities.
It's like having a presumption of innocence instead of a presumption of guilt. You could probably prevent some crimes by treating everyone as they are guilty.

I mean Jesus, compare S Korea with any European country and tell me they don't have a far superior method. Hit my link on the OP and look at the numbers.

Hilarious how Fatdog, nicko and Tommy are the ones attacking me on here this month...
DopeyDawg talks "unhappy" and "negativity" -- yet we see far more crap talking from him, whereas all that I have been doing here is stating facts, and commenting on official actions. Fathead spouts more "negativity" in one day on here than I have all week..
And let's not even mention Tommy Monks fearmongering and scaremongering efforts, amplified with his shonky creative fake "statistics" bullshittery. That's 'par for the course' for this forums self-declared "genius"..
.
As for that insipid old oxygen thief nicko -- that senile old bastard keeps on throwing out his tiresome pet insults of "know all", "expert", "keyboard warriors" and similar schoolyard trash talking (attacking any comments I've made -- but never commenting anything himself..) -- nicko's been attacking and trolling me, Quill, Andy and Lurker all year, yet he quickly claims 'victim status' when challenged, screaming like a little girl that he wants us all banned from here...
