Why Texans Don’t Want Any More Californians
Across a frightened nation divided by politics and culture, a fragile harmony is ascendant, as Americans in small towns and large cities alike cry out in trembling unison: Hey, where did all these Californians come from?
Talk of a “California Exodus” is sweeping the country—and so are anxieties about its effects on the rest of the West. In October, the Boise mayoral candidate Wayne Richey proposed at an election forum to build a $26 billion wall to keep out people moving from the Golden State. (His backup plan to stop the invasion of Boise? "Trash the place.”) A viral Wall Street Journal article recounted the plight of a small Idaho town buckling under the stress of thousands of inbound Californians. And this month, Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a warning on Twitter to Californians moving to his state: “Remember those high taxes, burdensome regulations, & socialistic agenda advanced in CA? We don't believe in that.” The sentiment was echoed in various warnings in Dallas newspapers about the awful “California-ing” of North Texas.

Real Californians hold their noses when passing through Texas.
It's all good, tho...those leaving California are ex-southerners, who couldn't make the grade.
Southeast past Las Cruces, y'all.

Re: Why Texans Don’t Want Any More Californians
There are things to like and to dislike about Texas, California and every other place on Earth, so I don't get the pissing contest.
I do find that most Californians (and New Yorkers) who've moved to Texas tend to be of the right-wing variety, though, so you wouldn't think anybody right-wing in Texas would be complaining.
It'd be more of a concern to the 52 percent of Texans who disapprove of the job Trump is doing (per Quinnipiac).

I agree with you, but since Red started it back whenever, I view is as just a little frivolity on the side.

That's cool. I've spent a small amount of time in Cali and found things I really liked -- the weather and the countryside are really beautiful -- yet there are things about Texas that I love but don't know if I could properly explain why, like how it feels to drive hundreds of miles through fields of mesquite trees from one unique, tiny town with a weird name to the next one.
It's all really subjective. You can tell me that Denmark has the happiest people in the world, but I'm not tempted to move there. My heart feels at home in England and Texas.

When California was going through it's growth spurt (after WWII), it reached a magnitude of about 2,000 persons a day. They were largely from the south.
The coastal cities (San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego) were already filled, so most of these people settled in the eastern part of the state...Kern county, Inyo, Fresno, Merced, Riverside and San Bernardino counties. If they are moving to Texas, they are southerners moving back to the south. The coastal cities are sure not losing their popularity.

California is beautiful with some of the best weather on the planet.
Regardless of what you or I think, people are leaving it in droves.
Many are even going to Houston. That's how you know that Cali is in deep shit.

Texas has BBQ and good seafood, California has great ethnic food and the best sourdough bread. It’s a tie.

You must be thinking of LA, which is glitzy but undistinguished as food goes. San Francisco and Lisbon, Portugal are the two best seafood cities in the world. https://sf.eater.com/maps/san-francisco-iconic-foods-classic-dishes-best-drinks The African, or Black lobster is what distinguishes Lisbon, and the Dungeness crab is what distinguishes San Francisco.
Even the world-famous sourdough bread is made in SF, at Boudin Bakery, and shipped to other points including LA and San Diego. Tadich Grill is just around the corner from my office in the financial district, and I must lunch there at least once a week. And, oh yes, the martini was invented across the bay, in Martinez (originally called “The Martinez Special”), and San Francisco claims it. The manhatten is a copycat claimed by New York City, and it is a variation on the martini, using bourbon or rye whiskey rather than gin or vodka, and red vermouth rather that white...also, some like to add a dash of Angostura bitters.
Of course, no visitor to San Francisco escapes without a visit to Fisherman's Wharf. Of the many restaurants on the wharf, I recommend Scoma's. The others are something of tourist traps--read as: expensive--and were long ago played out.
BTW, there is a second Scoma's in Sausalito, if you fancy a trip across the Golden Gate Bridge, and up into the north Bay. That's where I live.
The scenery is wonderful, and don't forget to visit Pier 39 and all the sea lions.

Maybe all these Californians are leaving by design?

New York Times wrote:Perhaps more consequential — or at least overlooked — is what’s happening among the vast diaspora of more than 7.3 million people who have left California since 2007. They appear to be changing the political makeup of the states they’ve moved to, perhaps enough to alter the Electoral College map in favor of Democrats.
Most interesting. What comes to mind is the southern migration of the 1960's, memorialized by Bobby Bare in his song, Detroit City ("I wanna go home"). Looking for work, southerners spread out from the south and permeated the mid-west with their ideology.
Haha...maybe it's payback.

Re: Why Texans Don’t Want Any More Californians
Colorado, Florida, Arizona and Nevada are at the receiving end of most leaving California. Out-migrants from California tend to be poorer, suggesting the motive is economic.
In most situations, people’s choice reflects the movement away from expensive core regions and the basic preference among people for affordable, less dense housing.
I don't really care what happens to Texas, or any of the south. I care about those liberal, compassionate southerners who want a better life...and I invite them to the west coast. But the racists, gun toters and nazis...stay away.
