General Motors is Dead...
Yeh, yeh...
I know that's not really "news" -- indeed, some will say that it died 20 years ago, but simply refuses to lie down..
25 years ago, GM was the biggest car maker in the world; then Toyota overtook it.
A few years later, Volkswagen drop-kicked them back into 3rd place..
Last year they were #5 (behind Renault-Nissan and PSA..); the way they're bleeding sales next year they will be in 6th or 7th spot...
That's what happens when a car company only builds crap cars, and the only half-decent vehicles they have left are a couple of pickups and ute's..
In 2017, GM stopped making cars in Oz; this year was GM-Holden's worst sales year on record.
By last year they had also sold Vauxhall and Opel to Groupe PSA (the Peugot - Citroen owners..), after deciding to leave Europe to the Europeans -- this year PSA announced that it has turned Vauxhall and Opel around, and is now making a profit on those brands..
A few months ago, GM announced that having abandoned the rest of the planet, they are now only concentrating on the North American and Chinese markets...
My question, for anyone who really cares anymore : how long before Chinese car companies (e.g. Chery, Great Wall..) will own GM ? I give them 10 years, at the most..

Too bad. I used to drive a GMC 4x4 light truck, and that 350-ci (5.7) Corvette engine was fantastic. You could drive it all day in the desert heat, and it would never fail. AC was great too. Performance with comfort.

JUST cars??? Don't you remember that time that you and I and Jeff were driving my Chevy Aveo around in the Texas heat, or when we barely made it home because its engine was overheating, or that funny pic that we took inside it with Jeff and Dobbie in the back seat?
Okay, only one of those was a *good* memory, but still!

GM also sent those Corvette V8 engines over to here as well -- the last version was the 6.0 litre one, putting out anywhere between 360 and 500+ hp, depending on tune/programming...
Put them into their Holden Commodore 'R8' sedans and SS utes ..
Those Commodore utes were the fastest 'production' model "pickup" style vehicles in the world, in their day (GM-Holden ceased production in 2017..). Ford's FPV division bought out a ute to match it, but it was more of a limited run 'after market' vehicle, rather than straight off the production line.
According to YouTube reviews, both GMC/Chev' and the Dodge Ram pickups have seen their quality and reliability dropping over the past 4 or 5 years..
On a worldwide basis, the most popular 'pickups'/utes now are the "mid-sized" Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger and GM Colorado/Isuzu D-Max vehicles...

Girls can like cars.
And considering that most of us will spend years of our life operating one, they are a pretty important aspect of your life. The wrong one or poorly running one can make your life miserable.

I have a Dodge Ram pick-up now. The big block GM motors exploded, going from a 454 ci to a huge 505 ci. I have a friend who has two 505's in his boat.
