Can't imagine anyone being to the Left of that tbf
I was pretty sure I'd moved a little to the Right tbh, but guess not!

I'm a bit more libertarian and slightly less to the economic left than Les:
All stems from my belief that a society in which people are free to pursue their personal happiness, but which provides help to the poor, is the ideal society.

Wow, I'd have expected you to be a lot closer to the middle of that graph, Didge.

Fairly central on left and right Libertarian leaning slightly more to the left which I guess is down to strongly backing social views
Where to be honest there is not much economical views on this but more so ethical views economically
So to be honest I dont think it gives a full understanding of full political views

Re: Political Compass
I think a lot of folks score more libertarian than authoritarian in principle, but in practice, they will accept more authoritarian ideas when things get rough, under the pretense of helping people.
Phil touches on the lack of economic questions with a heavier weight going towards social issues. "Social" libertarians are different than economic libertarians. Take the NHS. I doubt anyone on here besides me would want to get rid of it, but it's an authoritarian not a libertarian concept, as participation is forced upon people.

I've always been libertarian on social issues and left on economic issues. I'm not Cuba, I'm Sweden

Not according to this. That's why said earlier that most people are not as libertarian as they think in practice. The welfare state requires a good degree of Authoritarianism.

Oddly enough, you're nowhere near Hillary on this spectrum. Notice how close I am to Gary Johnson? I vote pretty close to my beliefs, while you're nowhere near her on this scale.

I've never really gotten a candidate who's where I am on that chart. They're always long-shot candidates who get eliminated early in the primaries.
Besides, political beliefs are certainly not the only thing I look for in a candidate -- otherwise, I'd run myself.

Bernie is there. Stein was there on the last election.

Re: Political Compass
Maddog, you should also acknowledge that your interpretation of authoritarian behavior is a bit different from most people's. Most people interpret authoritarianism as a state in which people's human rights are curtailed and in which a lot of power is concentrated in one or a few people, who have a lot of control over the private lives of their citizens.
You, like many libertarians in the U.S., don't make a distinction between the spheres of private life and commerce, but most people do.

Neither Bernie nor Stein had the experience I wanted to see. Neither for that matter did Obama back in 2008, but our house was on fire and he was a fireman, so there you go.

I'm irritatingly consistent. My business and income is my private life.

Bernie has been in government 198 years. How much experience does someone need?
And while Obama isn't charted, he's going to be near Hillary and Trump on this scale, nowhere near you.

I still liked Obama quite a bit, Hillary too. Bernie I liked as well, and he does have a lot of experience, but not as Secretary of State. Not as First Lady. Hillary was the most-qualified presidential candidate since George Washington.

He often fasted in protest, so he was quite weakl
He walked everywhere barefoot, so his feet were covered in callouses.
He spent hours meditating.
He didn't always have access to a toothbrush, so his breath smelled really bad.
Basically, he was a super-fragile calloused mystic hexed with halitosis.

I'm not sure what you mean by like. But when it comes to political philosophy, you're no where near most of the folks you "like".
And most of the folks you "like" are in the same neighborhood as Trump.

And Hillary has zero executive experience. She had a few years as a senator and 4 as Secretary of State. That's hardly impressive when choosing the leader of the executive branch.

So are you saying that, for instance, Obama and Hitler took this political compass test?
If they didn’t, it means nothing.

No, The folks that designed this test, took their political positions and charted them. They have what you call a "body of work" to analyse.

Right. Guesswork then. Someone else’s opinion, not the opinion of the person taking the test.
So nothing to see.
Would you like someone to “plot” you in a chart based on what they thought?
It’s just a nothing. Come on. You’re scraping the barrel.

I don't have a body of work really.
But you have seen me on here and Facebook. Based on the positions that you know about me taking, where do you think I should be, and does it differ much from where I wound up?

Well, I already had a pretty good guess as to where you'd end up on that graph. And I was right.
But is it fair? Was I being fair to you by guessing, educated as my guess might have been, as to what your core values and beliefs really are?
Of course not, and you know it.
I lumped you into my brain's "Ron Paul Guy" category when I guessed that you'd be in that bottom-right square. And you know what that is? Prejudice.
So no. Using guesswork to plot someone on a political compass isn't fair, and it shouldn't be considered any better than guesswork, either. And you know that.
