Scientists’ petition on climate crisis blocked over fake signatories
Dozens of signatories including Mickey Mouse and Harry Potter headmaster Albus Dumbledore from Hogwarts have been removed from an Alliance of World Scientists declaration of a “climate emergency”.
Access to the 11,000 name-petition that accompanied a statement of concern published in BioScience on Tuesday was blocked on Thursday.
A statement issued by Oregon
State University said “an administrative error unfortunately saw the inclusion of a small number of invalid names”.
The Alliance of World Scientists petition included Mickey Mouse from the Mickey Mouse School of the Blind, Namibia.
I have to say an Appeal to Popularity fallacies like this, when there is over 8 million scientists. Is going about tackling climate change the wrong way. But to get caught out with falsified names on the list really is embarressing and will have now damaged the reputation of scientists who signed here. To be seen alongside a list which had false names added to this

I get the feeling that the ridiculous names are just that...anti-voices, out to ridicule the effort.

I support tackling climate change, but recently asthma sufferers were also blamed for this with the use of their inhalers.
Sometimes even scientists can be irresponsible
As can you imagine the effect this would have on teenagers with asthma that support measure to combat climate change?
Where its pollution itself that has created their asthma?
That some may even stop using their inhalers, that are the very thing that keeps them healthy and free from possible death?
For 11,000 scientists to use an ad populum argument fallacy and use names invented. Proves corruption. When there is over 8 million scientists. Its not only irresponsible. It shows how weak their argument is. They should have millions supporting them. The reason they dont is based on their political views. Which is never mentioned here. That capitalism has to be overthrown to them
If people are to join together to tackle climate change. It has to be devoid of political views. Making it then a universal issue all can join on board with
I disapir at such under handed tactics by those on the left to use such a poor argument based on numbers, when those numbers are in fact minisule in regards to the number of actual scientists. As 11k out of 8 million is not a concensus. Its actually harming the cause to fight global warming as 11,000 is pathetic. The reason its pathetic, is these scientists are in fact political far leftist idiots. With more of a care of bringing down capitalism than actually tackling climate change

Businesses will have to face strict regulations if we're going to fix climate change. That is an undeniable fact.
Car manufacturers won't be able to sell gas-guzzling SUVs, which are by themselves the eighth biggest source of CO2 from humans.
Energy companies will have to shift to providing mostly renewable energy. (We don't have to completely ban the use of fossil fuels, just use a lot less of it.)
We need to start treating the environment as though it was a person. We're doing things to it that no person would tolerate. And capitalist enterprises are mostly to blame, namely the transportation and energy industries.
If they don't radically change, we're doomed. We're already fucked, thanks to companies like Exxon, which had its own scientists study climate change in the 1970s and 80s and concluded that their product was making the planet's atmosphere heat up rapidly.
If they don't stop, both the denial and the polluting, then we move from fucked to doomed.
