How climate change could give rise to exotic pests
This is all my own thinking, but it makes sense to me:
Imagine a mosquito population in Spain. They like it in Spain, it's warm there, and every time they've ventured toward England, they've been turned away or killed by the cold.
Now imagine climate change causes England to warm up just enough that some of the Spanish mosquitoes try to make a life for themselves there.
But as we know, the world hasn't warmed that radically yet. English weather reasserts itself and wipes out the Spanish mosquitoes ... or mostly wipes them out.
But if enough of them are hardy enough to survive the cold, they might survive long enough to reproduce and make a new generation of mosquitoes that are nearly all adapted to cold temperatures.
By altering the variable of temperature just slightly, we might find that evolution sticks its foot in the slightly-ajar door, and hey presto, a country that never used to have mosquitoes now has them, despite the fact that it hasn't really warmed very much.

They could already do this by going to France, or wherever. They could move to colder climates and adapt.

Maddog could round up some of those Africanised "killer" bees that have already entered southern Texas in past years...
And herd them up into California..
