10 of the UK's hottest years ever have come since 2002
The top 10 warmest years on record in the UK have all occurred since 2002, a new analysis from the Met Office says.
Its State of the UK Climate report shows that 2014 remains the warmest year in a temperature sequence now dating back to 1884.
Despite last summer's blistering heat, 2018 only places as the seventh warmest year on record - as the statistic is based on temperatures all year round.
When it comes to the coldest years, the most recent in the top 10 was in 1963.
The patterns of warm and cold years in Britain are a clear signal of climate change, say scientists.
It comes after the Met Office confirmed this week that the UK's hottest temperature ever - 38.7C (101.7F) - was recorded on Thursday in Cambridge.

Wished I could have visited England back when it had a more typically "English" climate. I'd hate to see England turn into Texas, with air conditioning units dangling out of every other window.

Well move up north then. Apart from last Thursday (when the temp was still mid 30's late into the evening)Manchester summers are typically cool, cloudy, and rainy.
You would soon be wishing it was MORE like Texas.

Depends on what you mean by cool, really. It's been hovering in the low to mid 20s in Essex lately and that's pretty mild to me, though I've heard some call it hot once it reaches near 26. That's ridiculous, I usually wouldn't have thought to put the AC on back in Texas until it was around 28.

I loved the heat last week, sadly we have paid for it with lots of flooding since.
Manchester summers are more often than not less than 20c, if we get to 70f and above we think we are lucky.

You should have stayed here. It's been a very cool summer here, until yesterday anyway.

My family in Texas have told me that, but I'd rather be here with my wife and stepkids, thanks

Middle of winter here, still...
Last week the temp's have been in the low 20s -- T-shirt weather..
If this was England, people would be calling it a "heatwave"..
For those who call 26°C a scorcher, I wonder how they would feel with 47°C -- temp's that both NSW and Texas experience..

Pissing down again here.
All you people who moan about the hot sunny weather...google the floods that have happened in greater Manchester over the last few days.
One months rainfall in the last 24 hours. A few days ago we had a full months rainfall in 48 hours.
Thats an awful lot of rain.
