Re: The Japanese Tiger Tank
Maybe if the Japanese Army had gained a foothold in Australia, and fully invaded China, big tanks might have been more practical for their war efforts...
Not exactly suitable for the battles they were fighting in the South Pacific and S.E. Asia, though..
With the USA giving the Jap's a hiding in Guam and the Solomons, and the Aussies kicking them out of New Guinea, the Japanese purchase of over-sized machinery was a bit of a 'white elephant', wasn't it -- the Japanese did gain a bit of new technology, however, which might have helped in some little way when it came to rebuilding industries after WWII ?

And wasn't it the Brits in Malaysia and Singapore, as well ???
A lot of Americans like to pretend that MaCarthur beat Japan single-handed, and controlled Japan for a decade afterwards..
When in truth, the Yanks had 4 other allied countries in there with them -- Britain, Australia, New Zealand and India.

Re: The Japanese Tiger Tank
The Tiger II tank would look silly rolling across the floor of the Pacific, or along the Marianas Trench at 38,838 ft.
After we sunk the Japanese Navy, and gutted their Naval Air Force at the Battle of Midway Island, six months into our part in the war, Japan was reduced to jungle warfare in a retreating effort across the Philippines and up the home islands. A tank wouldn't work well in a mangrove swamp, nor along the beaches as our F6F's and Corsairs picked them off just as they did their pilots in the Marianas Turkey Shoot.
A tank is an offensive weapon, that moves an army at high speed. After Midway, the Japanese were in head-long retreat until Hiroshima. The island-hopping was slow because of the jungle, but that is also the reason a tank wouldn't work well.

No. Britain never paid for the materials it received under the Lend Lease Act. But WTF, we're rich.

There's paying, and then there's 'paying'...
We only need look to the stronger economic and political ties that the USA was developing during the 1960s, '70s and '80s : Britain and Germany in Europe, Australia and New Zealand in the South Pacific, Japan and S. Korea in the North Pacific..
The USA economy and political influence would not have grown as fast and as wide as it did with its post-war allies, if America had chosen instead to stick with those insular and isolationist policies from the 1920s -- 1941 period.

Yeah, I see your point. But by the books, the UK never paid back the goods they received under the Lend Lease Act. No one here is complaining. We all won the war.
The problem after World War II wasn't economics, but ideology. With Korea, we began a series of conflicts with ephemeral causes that had no point. We were bored, I guess, and couldn't wait to show off our shit.
Now we have $-trillion aircraft and warships, but can't seem to afford simple healthcare.

Australia only finished paying some of our artificial 'debts' to British financiers in the 1970s and '80s !!!
Even though the British guvm'nt had already taken enough gold, wool, coal, wheat and iron ore back home by the beginning of the 20th century to cover their expenses twice over, they then fabricated fake debts with supposed "99 year" repayments at low interest rates, that meant they eventually recouped profits of 300 -->>400% on monies spent..
The majority of Aussie politicians at the beginning of the 20th century were largely either British expats, or only 1st and 2nd generation Aussies who still considered Britain their "motherland" -- and were quite happy to give Britain even more extraordinary and undeserved profits.

Britain did repay a large amount of the debt from WWII, as did Canada. The original loan of $4.34bn--equivalent to £27bn today--was made to avert Britain from bankruptcy at the end of the war, rather than to finance the combat itself. But the UK took until 2006 to pay off the debt because the interest rate was so good there was no reason to make any more than the minimum payment.
Smaller commonwealth nations, such as Australia or New Zealand, didn't receive anywhere near as much equipment, and debts were never pursued.
