Russian documents reveal desire to sow racial discord — and violence — in the U.S.
Russians who were linked to interference in the 2016 U.S. election discussed ambitious plans to stoke unrest and even violence inside the U.S. as recently as 2018, according to documents reviewed by NBC News.
The documents — communications between associates of Yevgeny Prigozhin, a Kremlin-linked oligarch indicted by special counsel Robert Mueller for previous influence operations against the U.S. — laid out a new plot to manipulate and radicalize African Americans. The plans show that Prigozhin’s circle has sought to exploit racial tensions well beyond Russia’s social media and misinformation efforts tied to the 2016 election.
The documents were obtained through the Dossier Center, a London-based investigative project funded by Russian opposition figure Mikhail Khodorkovsky. NBC News has not independently verified the materials, but forensic analysis by the Dossier Center appeared to substantiate the communications.
One document said that Trump's election had “deepened conflicts in American society” and suggested that, if successful, the influence project would “undermine the country’s territorial integrity and military and economic potential.”
The revelations come as U.S. intelligence agencies have warned of probable Russian meddling in the 2020 election.

The Russians have been somewhat successful in getting Americans to go at each other's throats. I wouldn't say they are completely responsible, but when they see a chance to stir the pot and they are all over it.
Their best move was to make many Americans think they are responsible for Trump winning. Putin just sits back and smiles at the discord that causes.

I agree they are not the only cause, but we are seeing the US become more and more divisive on both sides.
I also agree that Putin ios siting back laughing. We need to play him at his own game. Though if we did, people would actually suffer, if they started to stand up to him.
People in the US, need to understand they are being played by others like Putin and identify again behind a view of unity as an american nation and see it is basically an enemy in putin, that is at the core of this problem. When you direct that anger to the true cause outside the US, you end up uniting people

I agree, Putin is calling a lot of shots for the US since he discovered this power. It's not only the hidden conversations. Consider Trump's anti-NATO position. US pulling out of Afghanistan. Love toward North Korean dictator. Naming good Putin friend, Rex Tillerson, as Secretary of State (Trump didn't even know the guy). That's just a few.
Most of all, several of the gambits Trump has used (‘elections are rigged’; 'bait and switch' of Barr's opinion for Mueller report; repetitive, obvious lies, alienation of EU; kompromat, disinformazi, apparatchik; cultivate; cut-outs; useful idiot; Krysha (Крыша) or sponser) are tactics derived from counterintelligence trade craft. Putin, in Soviet days, was head of KGB. Trump doesn’t have the intelligence to dream up these tactics.
My suspicion is daily phone calls between Trump and Putin.
