He was best known as a broadcaster for teaming with former NFL coach John Madden for 22 years. Summerall also worked for years alongside former player Tom Brookshier and became the voice of the NFL in the 1970s and 1980s, calling most of the league's signature games.

i always looked forward to the Thanksgiving football games with Madden and Summerall. all things must come to pass. Sad

It's sad, he was one of the biggest announcers when I was the heaviest into the NFL. But he seemed to deteriorate pretty rapidly toward the end of his career; you could tell his mind wasn't what it used to be.
