Oculus To Stop Selling Dev Kit 1

Oculus VR, the company behind the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset, has announced that it is to suspend sales of the Oculus Rift developer kit. A post from an Oculus Community Manager named cybereality on Reddit confirmed as much, explaining that some components used in the headset are no longer in production, perhaps hinting that a new version of the development kit is to be released soon.

The company intends to keep on selling the remaining inventory of development kits until they have run out in each region. Sales will then be suspended “until we are able to deliver news orders”. Oculus Rift developer kits are currently on sale in the United States, Canada, parts of the European Union, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Switzerland and Norway.

“We never expected to sell so many development kits and VR only made this much progress with the community’s support and enthusiasm,” the post concluded. “Even though we never wanted to sell out, it’s a good problem to have — Thank you!”
