'One million' march to STOP Brexit: Organisers of People's Vote protest in London claim biggest turnout since Iraq march in 2003 - as petition to cancel withdrawal hits 4.5 million
Anti-Brexit protesters have travelled from all over the country to London for the 'Put it to the People March' as the online petition urging the government to cancel Brexit passed four and a half million signatures.
Opponents of Britain's departure from the European Union began gathering in Hyde Park from 12pm before converging on Westminster and organisers claim a million people turned up to voice their concerns over the decision to leave the EU.
If true, today's demonstration would be the biggest since 2003 when an estimated one million people protested against the Iraq War in the streets of London.
Speakers set to address a rally outside Parliament include Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, London Mayor Sadiq Khan and opposition Labour deputy leader Tom Watson.
Other speakers will include former Conservative cabinet minister Justine Greening and ex-attorney general Dominic Grieve, former Tory turned independent MP Anna Soubry, Lib Dem deputy leader Jo Swinson, Green Party MP Caroline Lucas and SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford.
Organisers claimed that one million protesters came to the protest, after previously saying they were confident that the size of the crowd would exceed a similar rally held in October, where 700,000 people turned up.
The Metropolitan Police refused to comment on the size of the march.
Addressing the crowd in Parliament Square, Labour's deputy leader Tom Watson said: 'We are one million strong.'
He said he was there on behalf of his 10-year-old daughter.
'She has told me to thank you for campaigning for her future,' he said.
Mr Watson said the Prime Minister's deal 'pleases no-one'.
'If you voted remain it's a rubbish deal, if you voted leave it's a lousy deal. There are no winners, only losers,' he said.
He added: 'Brexit is stuck in the parliamentary pipeworks and it's not going to find a way out.'
Addressing his comments to Theresa May, he said: 'I can only vote for a deal if you let the people vote on it too.
'Prime Minister, you've lost control of this process, you're plunging the country into chaos, let the people take control.'

They're all banging on about this petition...but a petition isn't a vote.

Isn't that about 25 per cent of the original "people's vote" (er, the Referendum) to quit the EU?

Let's just get the E.E.C. back. Referendums should have happened in every country in the EU when political changes/ever closer union was put forward and no continuing vote until the 'right' answer is achieved. What is the purpose of ever closer union? If its peace and prosperity wasn't that already happening, doesn't the EU reckon so, nothing to do with NATO or people managing to see past the old reasons for going to war.

I signed the position, it probably showed that from outside the UK too. There are millions of expats, so not surprising if some signed it
Also, it is near 5 million now, and this is just active online Remainers who are aware. It may not be comparable to a vote, but surely significant enough to take notice. Polls put Remain ahead by a fair margin too.
And the biggest public demonstration/March since Iraq.
And what all us are really asking for now is a final say on if and how we leave.
No Deal
May's Deal
Remain.
Since the original vote did NOT specify leaving everything OR remaining in the free trade area - lie to yourself if you will, but many Brexiteers repeatedly stated we could remain in the Single Market.
With the options on the table, letting the people have a final say is the most sensible option. No one could dispute the outcome.
But all this is escaping the FACT now, that Leavers are SCARED because they KNOW they'd lose another vote.
And May's Deal will become reality

Also, reports show that there was nowhere near 1 million on that march. More like 120,000.
We were told, breathlessly, that the initial count showed more than a million people were marching. The biggest protest march in UK history!
But, well, it wouldn’t be the first time such figures have been inflated. Let’s not forget the second Brexit referendum march in October 2018, which organisers claimed had more than 700,000 marchers, when the Greater London Authority put the number at a far more realistic 250,000.
Sophisticated analysis by the website countingcrowds.co.uk, using images of October’s march, suggested the true number was closer to 82,000. Should the same apply to yesterday’s rally, there might have been as few as 120,000 on the streets.
What I will concede, however, is that – for a political protest – the People’s Vote was by far one of the politest events I’ve ever been to.
For every rude poster – shouting ‘Brexs**t’, for instance – there were placards that merely fawned over the EU. Even when the crowds chanted ‘b******* to Brexit’ there was no snarl.
They could have been ordering the gnocchi in Carluccio’s.
If I were more of a conspiracy theorist, I might be inclined to suggest the march was designed to promote London’s most elite retail establishments.
It was a veritable tour of the best in bespoke men’s tailoring, cigar finery and the most expensive shaving sets I’ve ever seen.

Here's a twitter link of someone posting fake drone photos of that march. Thank God that fake news these days is mostly rumbled.

And fgs, why is, that for all people go on about free speech, the very idea of protesting in the streets is so endlessly attacked by many more conservative folks. Let people vent - lord knows they've been fucked over badly enough as it is by the idiotic nonsense that is Brexit.

It's been said in various places on social media...posted along with the lies about numbers attending. Nobody is denying anyone free speech. But spouting lies isn't really on, is it? Does help the cause any.

It's not just about leaving though, is it? It's about the conditions attached to that. Which is why the politicians are all up in arms. The deals are being negotiated by someone who doesn't want to leave the EU. We've had no one at the helm who's heart has been in it. It's a shambles all round, leaving absolutely no confidence that whatever deal is done will be the right one for the country. I've always felt strongly that Britain has been in a stranglehold within the EU, and that in time, it would only get worse.

To be fair Tommy has a point. People can continually sign this using multiple email accounts and why its a sham.
If there was 18 million individual people that have signed this. Then that would be more votes than the referendum. So 4 million is nothing when you think about it.
If people wanted to stay in the EU, then there would be 20 million people that would have signed
The fact its only 4 million is actually really poor when you think about it
Only 4 million really want to stay in the EU, the rest could not give a fuck either way or want out.
I have to say though, this has to go down as one of the most sickest things the remainers have done. Me being a remainer and yet stand by democracy. Am appalled at this.

Warped Remainers have produced a ‘commemorative’ tea towel to celebrate the deaths of people who voted for Brexit and have died since the referendum. These are people’s mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, children whose deaths they are gloating over…

Considering:
1. The result of the referendum was 52/48.
2. There WERE assurances by many lead Brexiteers of remaining in the Single Market.
3. And polls today put Remain largely ahead.
I'd say that, although it is an uncomfortable compromise, May's Deal is kind of trying to do the best for all. Because:
1. We still leave the EU.
2. We retain access to the Single Market.
3. We do so while protecting EU citizens in the UK, UK citizens in the EU and visa free travel.
It does the best by all parties.
It is only hard Brexiteer arrogance that presumes ALL Leave voters wanted a full break. Of 17 million voters, it would be stupendously arrogant to think ALL wanted out of the Single Market too.

It was made crystal clear that leave meant leaving the single market, the customs union, the CAP, the CFP, and taking back control of our laws, rules, borders and money!
And 17.4 million people voted to leave!!!
We all knew what we were voting for!!!
Time to get on with it!!!
Maybe you can remind us what the law is, about us leaving under article 50...!?
Two years of talks to try to reach an amicable trade settlement... or we leave under WTO trade terms...!
So... it couldn't be clearer that we should now leave on 29th March under WTO terms!!!
The British people voted to leave... and to be honest... didn't even want the 2 years of bullshit wrangling up until this point...!!!
We just want to leave!!!
WTO terms is fine by leave voters... and we could have had this all sorted 2 years ago!!!

Apparently not the plus half the country who now want to remain
Is that why the petition has only 5 million that have signed? That is not even a sixth of the number of people who voted in the referendum
Sorry, let me rephrase that
1 million that have signed, with the rest being the same people signing multiple times, but lets look at the person that created this petition shall we?
Remainers and Leavers alike have been getting a little too excited about the Revoke Article 50 Petition. Yes, you can sign it as many times as you like with made up email addresses and whatever name and country you care to put in. Yes, there are videos online explaining in detail how to use bots to hijack Parliamentary petitions – exactly what happened with the second referendum petition immediately after the referendum. Is it actually going to stop Brexit? No, that will be MPs…
The creator of the petition is a certain Margaret Anne Georgiadou, who went on LBCto discuss the petition this afternoon. Now Guido can reveal a series of shocking posts from her on Facebook where she makes repeated death threats against Theresa May. She even discusses in detail with fellow Remainers how to purchase “legal” guns and go to the House of Commons.
In January, Georgiadou wrote about how she hoped that May would kill herself. In two further comments that now appear to have been deleted, she described May (or possibly Andrea Leadsom) as a “creature” that “needs putting down” and threatened to shoot May “point blank”.
In another deeply disturbing thread, Georgiadou and two other Remainers discuss at great lengths how to purchase “completely legal” paintball guns and them load them with “solid ‘training balls'” that will cause “extreme pain”. Georgiadou asks if people “need a licence” to own one and “where can you buy?” She then jokes about shooting Brexiteers “with impunity”…
Georgiadou’s friend ‘Dino Bragoli’ shares multiple more links to websites where these guns can be purchased, before instructing her to “never shoot them in the back, always shoot them in the face or better still, the groin at close range” and what to say to avoid being prosecuted. Georgiadou responds “where to buy, and how much?”
Georgiadou and the others then discuss how to make the weapons even more painful by modifying them to contain pepper spray, before ‘Chris Hunsicker’ comes up with the suggestion of bursting balloons filled with chili powder at the House of Commons. Georgiadou responds that his suggestion is “very constructive if you ask me”, then Bragoli shares a picture of his own pistol complete with ammunition, a rifled barrel and an extra modifications:
This is not just idle threats of violence against politicians, Georgiadou and her associates were engaged in detailed discussions of how to purchase weapons within the bounds of the law and modify them to cause maximum pain, then talking about going to Parliament. Deeply concerning….
https://order-order.com/2019/03/22/revoke-article-50-petition-creator-threatened-may-discussed-buy-legal-guns-take-commons/
I would say that this person clearly does not believe in democracy and is instead looking to murder a Governement official, all because they did not get their way in a referendum

Probably wouldn’t have heard about it if it was people marching for the opppsite, or if we did, the numbers would’ve been far less.
We had Black Taxi marches against Uber with the same numbers. Guess what? Never even made the news.
Wonder why.

There was tons of coverage last week when lorry drivers protested in favor of Brexit.

Leave means leave!!!
Not 'half in half out'... and certainly doesn't mean still being in 3 years after the vote to leave, and with remoaners still regurgitating the same old arguments about why they think we should remain in the EU, and with any of it being given any credibility...!
The decision has been made!!!
We decided to leave!!!
And we all knew full well that if a decent deal could not be agreed in two years after the declaration to leave under article 50 of the law that we are enshrined to... then this very same law is clear in its instructions that we would then leave the EU under WTO rules!!!
Time to get on with abiding by the referendum result, and abiding by the EU law that the remainers are so in favour of upholding...!!!

Leave does indeed mean leave, but everyone -- even those you disagree with -- is entitled to freedom of expression.
If they think that Brexit is a bad idea, they have the same right to say that as you have to say you think it's a good idea.

They don't have the right to spread lies as they have done, and the "Million March" was a load of bollocks. The Police reckoned there was 250,000 to 300,000 !

How much money is going into the NHS as a result of Brexit?

But they don't have the right to try to stop us leaving the EU... as the democratic decision to leave has already been made!

It was a suggestion, not a commitment. I don't know why people always seem to think that was a promise. It wasn't even the Government who said it.

No... what is happening is that remoaner mps are trying to stop us leaving...!
We don't leave the EU by staying in it!
And we don't leave the EU by being forced into a deal that effectively means that we stay in the EU either!
It is crystal clear that the vote to leave the EU meant leaving the EU in its entirety and leaving the single market, the customs union, the CAP, the CFP, and ending free movement, and being outside of the jurisdiction of the ECJ... and taking back full control over our laws, rules, borders and money, and restoring our democracy!!!

The Referendum was advisory, not legally binding. I don't know why Leave voters always think that was a promise.

"Vote Leave. Let's fund our NHS."
Can't be more clear-cut than that.
