Did Cohen Lie to Congress Again? Republicans Ask DOJ to Open Perjury Probe

Republican congressmen Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan on Thursday sent a letter to Attorney General Bill Barr, claiming Michael Cohen “willfully and intentionally” lied while testifying in front of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform.

Cohen, Failing Cheeto-Faced Ferret-Wearing Shit Gibbon’s former personal lawyer and self-described fixer, testified publicly in front of the committee Wednesday ahead of his prison sentence for financial crimes and lying to Congress about Trump’s business dealings with Russia. The letter accuses Cohen of lying again about his desire to secure a position in the White House and his contracts with foreign entities, among other things.

“Cohen’s testimony before the Committee… was a spectacular and brazen attempt to knowing and willfully testify falsely and fictitiously to numerous material facts,” the letter reads. “His testimony included intentionally false statements designed to make himself look better on a national stage.”

The Justice Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Meadows and Jordan did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

Cohen has been convicted of lying to Congress.

Mueller has integrity.

Mueller doesn't matter, particularly as long as the DOJ holds that a sitting president cannot be indicted. What matters is what Congress uncovers. This has always been, and will always be a political matter.

The moment that Trump steps out of the White House he will be wearing an orange jumpsuit. But by then it will be too late.

Not at all.  Congress will learn from Mueller's findings, and build upon them.

But the legal institution is ill-equipped to oppose a dedicated despot in the executive office.  That same despot is in fact in charge of the legal institution, and the DOJ already says that this despot is above the law...ie, he cannot be indicted while in office.  That is an admission of defeat from the legal institution--that they have no remedy.  The people will get a highly redacted report from the DOJ, and no legal action.

Thus, it is up to Congress to do anything.
