I am fairly new to Netflix, so far I have binge watched all the Black Mirrors and am on the third series of the American Horror stories

I think Netflix has removed Killing Eve. We are now going to see it on AMC which is sister channel to BBC America. Do you have Hulu or Amazon Prime?

I am enjoying SAFE....so many twists and turns.
The actor who is playing the dad of the missing girl is no other than DEXTER, and that was one my all time favourite TV series.

Everyone you have mentioned has been brilliant.

I didn't say it was a compliment. But in a conservative way, it is a tip-your-hat. Forget the purpose, and focus on the 'cunning and sneaky' part. Another way to say this, is: you are intelligent and quick That can't be all bad.

I don't subscribe to Netflix, but I do have Amazon Prime (getting 'free postage' on books goes someway to subsidising the subscription here -- especially with some books being sent from the US and UK to Oz..).
If I did have Netflix, the first shows I would be watching would be the super hero spinoffs from Marvel and DC..
In a few months, Disney will have their own full blown 'streaming' service up and running, expanded out from the Disney Channel currently carried by Fox (and with Disney now controlling Fox, there's all of that ready made content that they can add on to their existing Disney, Pixar and Marvel brands..).

If I had young kids in the house I might consider getting Disney. I love the Avengers but not that much lol.
We have a bunch of different systems and it’s still cheaper than satellite tv. But of course the golf channel costs the most...

Maybe it’s because I’m a bit of a history buff that I found it somewhat difficult to regard as anything other than garbage a “period drama” supposedly set in the Regency Era that depicted Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the German-born wife of Hanoverian King George 111, as a black woman and that getting on for a half of the then noble and titled families of England were of Afro-Caribbean descent.
I suppose that opinion would, in some social media circles, lay me open to predictable screeches of racism, to which I would be tempted to suggest that anyone casting Dawn French as Queen Salome Tupou 111 of Tonga , Anthony Hopkins as Martin Luther King or Sean Bean as Nelson Mandela would almost certainly attract the harshest of opprobrium from the virtue signalling community.
Sorry Syl, but I watched only about half an hour of episode one before reaching for the sick bag.....

As a matter of fact I agree with you entirely. He was Judean (Southern Palestine) and is described in the gospels as “...being of the house and lineage of David...” That would certainly have marked him as being dark ( probably very dark) skinned.
Mary and Joseph, having the same birthright, would almost certainly have been the same, of course.
Mind you, half my family are almost certainly of Saxon, or even Brigante, descent given the nature of my paternal surname, whereas the maternal side are descended from Raoul, le Compte d’Iverie et Bayeaux in Normandy so I suppose I’m also part French. And I have ( or at least had) jet black hair and a swarthy complexion!

I wouldn’t dream of calling you shallow, Syl; my gripe is that the makers of this series have the effrontery to describe it as a “Regency period drama.” It isn’t; it’s an historic fantasy.
Your pic of a suggested Jesus Christ in a subsequent post is probably about spot on. The early Roman Catholic Church has much to answer for...and indeed Christ is venerated in Islam as a revered prophet.

The Normans were actually more blond than the Saxons. After all, they were Norwegian-Danes (Norman = Norse men = men from the north). Under Rollo they sailed down the English Channel and bumped into France, where they settled.
I imagine they would have intermingled with Frankish women, which would have yielded the roman nose, and a mixture of both blonds and dark, swarthy types.
My point is that Jesus would not have looked like how he is depicted in western bibles, as Saxon or Norman. Yet, such is the taste of our Anglo-American Christian devotees...so will it be done.
BTW, seen any white actors play Othello lately?

Re: NETFLIX
There are some controversial findings in cave burials in Israel, by Israeli archaeologists, with DNA showing some of the bodies had blue eyes and light skin and hair. The bodies were buried or interred in a cave around 6,000 years ago. There had been many occupations including Persians and there is an ancient marker for lighter hair etc in the Iranians although not exactly blondes and they would be a minority.
So its extremely unlikely Jesus was blonde he could have been fairly light or quite dark by middle eastern standards. Its not even as though that many in the general population in Europe was that blonde when the paintings of Jesus were painted, I doubt they were trying to depict him as even Northern European but its more about being special, holy pure etc therefore lighter in all aspects, in person, his robes etc. As Dave Allen used to say 'may your god go with you' so your god can be whatever complexion your culture prefers.

Does 'light' equate to "special, holy pure etc"? How so, if it's not about being like us? I think they were just trying to depict Jesus as a WASP.

Re: NETFLIX
Well its not like the majority of us in Europe though is it? Although the further North you go in Europe the amount of blondes increase. The majority of the Europeans have hair which is various shades of brown to black and skin tones from very pale to quite dark olive complexions so a light skinned blue eyed blonde was probably still fairly unusual. So much of paintings have fabrics depicted in white and gold. I know Rome had slaves and soldiers of all colours but I doubt too many ordinary people knew or saw anyone that didn't resemble themselves. I really don't think it was some racist conspiracy, check out some Russian and Greek icons there's some leeway for local norms there.
I don't think Western artists were trying to depict Jesus as particularly white, just identifiable, to an extent at least, although not ordinary, it was just the time and place, I doubt it crossed their mind to be ethnically correct. A lot of the time their depictions are not even anatomically correct - if we want to be pedantic..
After all Quetzalcoatl is depicted as white and nothing like the people who worshipped him or did some racist get in there as well.,
