A police force which rejected a "well prepared" potential recruit because he is a white, heterosexual male has been found guilty of discrimination.

Matthew Furlong, 25, whose father is a detective inspector in Cheshire Police, applied to join the force in 2017.

When he lost out to other candidates, his father lodged a complaint.

An employment tribunal ruled the force had used "positive action" to recruit people with different characteristics, but in a discriminatory way.

Mr Furlong, who studied particle physics and cosmology at Lancaster University, said he was told at the interview "it was refreshing to meet someone as well prepared as yourself" and that he "could not have done any more".

Employment lawyer Jennifer Ainscough said: "Matthew was denied his dream job simply because he was a white, heterosexual male.

"This is the first reported case of its kind in the UK where positive action has been used in a discriminatory way."

Good for him, and that's exactly how the system should work. A liberal, unbiased society shouldn't be considering color, gender or sexual orientation in the hiring process; only the qualifications of the applicant.

Good. It has to work both ways. I’m getting kind of sick of white people apologising for being white.

Either colour matters for everyone, or it Fucking doesn’t. Been saying this for years.

We've had some wins like that. McDonald v. Santa Fe Transportation Co., 427 U.S. 273 (1976).

But how long will this last, where all are afforded the same protection from discrimination.

Already we see people pushing for equality of outcome, which is a poor leftist ideology, which is blatant discrimination

I mean we already have this said:

Daily Mail wrote:The case came as the leader of Britain’s police chiefs called yesterday for radical laws to allow police to positively discriminate in favour of ethnic minority candidates.

If people are not seeking to join the Police, then that is down to the Police to imporve their image with ethnic minority communities. That is why their recruitment drive continually fails and yet we some. Pushing to allow discrimination. Simple in order to reach targets of ethnic groups within the Police. It flies in the face of equality laws and shows again the failing of the Police service itself. Hence they are not looking at the root core problem of why people are not joing the Police. The poor stop and search policy is just one of a number that ends up discrimination against ethnic minorities, through the sterotypes held by some of the police.

If they want to drive more to join the Police, then looking to discriminate against others. Is never going to be the solution. As what they are failing to be the drive here, is equality of oppourtunity. That is what they should work on and look to build bridges
