Labour revolt: 7 MPs resign over Corbyn, anti-semitism

Seven MPs have resigned from the Labour Party in protest at Jeremy Corbyn's approach to Brexit and anti-Semitism.

They are: Chuka Umunna, Luciana Berger, Chris Leslie, Angela Smith, Mike Gapes, Gavin Shuker and Ann Coffey.

Ms Berger said Labour had become institutionally anti-Semitic and she was "embarrassed and ashamed" to stay.

Mr Corbyn said he was "disappointed" the MPs had felt unable to continue working for the policies that "inspired millions" at the 2017 election.

Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell said the "honourable thing for them to do" would be to stand down as MPs and seek to return to Parliament in by-elections.

I agree that they should stand down as MPs. People tend to vote for a party in general elections rather than a person.

by the way this new group is not a party it is a business and as such not subject to the same rules as a political party

I reckon when it gains momentum (sic) a few centrist and pro Brexit conservatives will join them.
Britain actually needs this.
The present Tories have lurched to the right at the same time as Labour lurched left.
Brits are generally a moderate society, and prefer left bor right of centre , not full on extreme either way.
Curious as to why Deano is here. Perhaps there is tumbleweed rolling down the Flop high Street.

Agreed, Eds.
There are plenty of decent, conviction Labour MP's who could step up to lead the party.
Ummunna, Cooper, Benn, Starmer, Watson, Jarvis, Ed Miliband, David Miliband (if he returns). Even Frank Field.

Then I think he should do the decent thing and step down. I’ve never voted Labour (always Lib Dem or greens) but I do NOT want to see the bloody Tories in for another length of time!

All Labour MPs stood on their election manifesto promise to respect the result of the EU referendum and to deliver on the UK leaving the EU... either with a mutually beneficial and acceptable deal or on WTO terms if no deal is reached in 2 years of post article 50 negotiations...!

Any Labour MPs working against this... should not only resign their positions in parliament.. but should also be charged with treason!
