Labour party edges towards split as up to 100 moderate MPs including Luciana Berger, Ed Miliband, Harriet Harman and Yvette Cooper face being deselected before the next election
Labour is edging towards a bitter split as up to a hundred MPs face the threat of a deselection battle.
Plans for a breakaway group have been accelerated by fears of a mass wave of challenges to sitting MPs.
Moderates believe party grandees including Ed Miliband, Harriet Harman, Yvette Cooper and Dame Margaret Beckett will all face attempts to oust them, along with Labour frontbenchers Diane Abbott and Dan Carden.
It is anticipated that around a quarter of the 100 MPs expected to be subject to a contest will lose, removing them as Labour candidates for the next election. Those seen as most at risk include Luciana Berger, Chris Leslie, Gavin Shuker and Angela Smith, who are all thought to be considering quitting the party as part of an imminent split. Others believed to have little chance of surviving deselection challenges include former party leadership candidates Mary Creagh and Angela Eagle, Commons Brexit committee chairman Hilary Benn, leading Brexiteer Kate Hoey and former international development spokesman Kate Osamor.

The Labour Party is imploding, and it's probably for the best.
I've completely lost confidence in the front bench due to their handling of the Brexit situation, which has been nothing but obstructionist opportunism. Corbyn has proven awful at bringing people together, and tbh, I don't think that's what he wants. He just wants to lead an increasingly radical bunch of sycophants and has no time for voices of reason if they happen to disagree with him.
I'd support a Labour breakaway group.
Sadly, this would lock the Tories in power for another decade, but since I wouldn't trust Corbyn and co to run a papershop that might actually be the most sensible (even if utterly unlikable) option...
Though, I also hear rumours of a possible split in the Conservatives too (led by Rees-Mogg). However, I think the Tories care more about clinging to power than political convictions, so probably won't happen.

Chuka Umunna is a big name to lose. This is massive the Labour Party; Corbyn is pretty much steering a sinking ship at this point.
I seriously hope these MPs will form a new party, despite the claim in the article they will not

So, Comrade Corbyn is "disappointed" that these MPs feel that they are unable to "...continue working for the policies that inspired millions at the 2017 general Election."
Would one of those "inspiring" policies have been the election pledge immediately to end university tuition fees and eradicate student debt?
...the promise that not unnaturally won the support of scores of thousands of students, making Comrade Corbyn such a national hero to them?
...the promise that was quietly withdrawn by Labour HQ only weeks after the election - because the party's team of economic wizards who drew up it's "entirely affordable" fiscal programme "...hadn't realised that it would cost so much to end tuition fees and student debt..."?
But never mind, Comdade Corbyn: Terrorists and brutal South American dictators think you're wonderful.

It appears that labour has now split into a party that is trying to overturn brexit and a party that is trying to overturn brexit but hates jews as well.
Remember in 2010 when I said labour would lurch further and further left and then split, the only surprise is it took so long.

It so #SoBrave of them to leave now just as the de-selection process gets moving.Eilzel wrote:Andy wrote:7 Labour Mps quit, so far, coinciding with Thor coming in his pants at the news.

These splitters are intent on demanding a second vote for brexit, but not so much for their constituents who voted for a labour MP.
the law needs changing so crossing the floor or resigning / losing the whip requires a by election.
