This man is breaking down, mentally. It would be tragic if so many didn't follow this goon like some kind of messiah.
I can only conclude his loudest supporters are simply trolls just in it for the laugh.

Awww you use the term NPC, how sweet. Do you have a Steven Crowder wallpaper on your desktop too?
Normally a politician speaking his mind is refreshing, but in Trump's case he really needs it. You honestly watch that video and think this is a man who should be allowed access to the nuclear codes?
I think you and the rest of Trumps cheerleaders need to be fined for taking advantage of the elderly and mentally deranged

He doesn't even know what an appellate court is. The Ninth Circuit is the appellate division!
I think liberals should be quiet about opposing Trump's national emergency. It sets a precedent. And precedent is like a bell...it cannot be unrung.
Show of hands, how many people believe we will have a president of the other party in 2020? And the bell that cannot be unrung is a new power for presidents...go around Congress and declare a national emergency.
1. How long have we lived with gun violence in our schools? It is a national emergency, right? Declare it, nullify the 2nd Amendment, and take away all guns out there.
2. Dependence on fossil fuel is causing drastic climate change. It's a national emergency, right? Declare it, and impose drastic restrictions on pollution. Take money from the military and build high-speed rail all over. Electric cars. It's an emergency, fix it!
3. How many people die because they cannot afford medical care? Or, we can't fix what ails them until it grows too late. It's a national emergency, right? Declare it, and merge the Department of Health with the Department of Defense--health is a defense, right?--and use the defense budget to fund universal healthcare.
There are plenty of things around that attain the level of national emergency...which our resident conservatives tend to ignore. But now we have the vehicle to fix those things. Declare a national emergency.
Supreme Court will stop us? Nah...it's a national emergency, remember? Suspend the authority of the Supreme Court.

While what he comes out with is pretty much always the ramblings of an egotistical man child, there is something extra weird about the WAY he is speaking here. People do not speak like that, at least over the age of 7 lol
I think there's something wrong him, genuinely.

If you go back to old videos from when he was on Oprah 20 years ago, he sounds different. He's older, and was never a great speaker, and is much worse now.
Plus he's obstinate and likes to make up his own speeches, instead of relying on others and reading a teleprompter.
He could be crazy too, but I'm in no position to judge.

You do know that all of his recent predecessors called several national emergencies, so the precedent is already there.
According to the Brennan Center for Justice, at the time of Cheeto-Faced Ferret-Wearing Shit Gibbon’s declaration of a National Emergency Concerning the Southern Border of the United States in February 2019, some 58 national emergencies had previously been declared by various presidents since 1979, with 31 of them still in effect as of February 2019.
The gist of the social media post displayed above is therefore correct, in that every U.S. president since 1976 (excluding Gerald Ford, whose term ended in January 1977) has declared at least one national emergency, although we came up with some slightly different numbers. (Our tally based on the Brennan Center’s list has Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush each declaring one more emergency than stated above, and President Barack Obama declaring one fewer than stated.) In additional, the majority of those emergency declarations remain in effect as of this writing.
The focus of these national emergencies has ranged from President Carter’s blocking Iranian government property after fifty-two American diplomats and citizens were taken hostage in Tehran in 1979 and President Reagan’s barring trade with Nicaragua in 1985, to President Clinton’s prohibiting transactions with terrorists who threatened to disrupt the Middle East peace process in 1995 and President Obama’s declaring an emergency over the H1N1 influenza pandemic of 2009.
In short, although many Americans may not have been aware of it at the beginning of 2019, the United States has been under one or more states of national emergency continuously for the last four decades.

He is almost certainly heading toward some kind of mental illness, probably only find out after he leaves the Whitehouse though

In this case though the Trump admitted in front of all the media that he only did it to build his wall faster. Your president is an utter joke. Sadly, as in the UK, a credible opposition is struggling to present itself.

I know why he did it.
I'm just saying that declaring emergencies are hardly new or some sort of precedent.
It's a lame emergency no doubt. It's not the first lame emergency to be declared though.
For example, in 2012, Obama declared a national emergency entitled, "Blocking Property of Persons Threatening the Peace, Security, or Stability of Yemen" in order to freeze the assets of anyone perceived to be negatively impacting a political transition in Yemen, VOA reported. In 2014, the 44th president issued a national emergency referred to as "Blocking Property of Certain Persons Contributing to the Situation in Ukraine," which similarly locked the assets of those thought to be undermining democratic processes in Ukraine. These are just two of many internationally oriented states of emergency that Obama declared while in office.
For his part, Trump has thus far declared three national emergencies during his tenure, CNN reported. One centers on creating penalties for individuals around the world who are involved in human rights abuses. Another penalizes individuals involved in perpetuating violence in Nicaragua. And another imposes sanctions on foreign entities who seek to interfere in American elections.

But it's the first national emergency to be declared diametrically opposed to an action of Congress. It's one thing to have the Executive legislate, it's another thing to have the Executive legislate on something that Congress has already considered and rejected.
Trump thinks because he didn't veto, he didn't contradict Congress. But it's a matter of record that the Executive department wanted a wall, and Congress turned it down.
So, this sets up a constitutional crisis: which Branch has the right of initiation over spending? Is it Congress, or is it the Executive?
Frankly, the constitutional arrangement is showing itself to be a bit too cumbersome. Gun control, climate control and healthcare are issues that are beginning to logjam up. Perhaps it's time to streamline things.

I teach it.
But, Republicans show us one thing more important: the US Constitution doesn't work anymore. Mitch McConnell teaches us that by preventing a vote, you can hold up an appointment or anything until your man is in. Now, that's precedent...you can't unring a bell. The Senate is now a debating society, no more. The sole power of the Senate is to hold things up. Withholding the vote is king.
The state of emergency (SOE) powers can be useful in the void that the congress as a whole has left. Under SOE powers, the Constitution may now be suspended. Once suspended, anything may be done. Imagine if President Dr. Obama had used SOE powers; we'd have no Syria problem now; we'd have a fully funded and working healthcare program; we'd be well on the way toward fixing global warming; and we'd have the guns out there!!
Most intriguing is the re-engineering of the Supreme Court. In fact, the number of justices is NOT set by the Constitution. So Congress may re-set the number any time. But under SOE powers, a president might create an entirely new appellate court of higher authority than the Supreme Court--call it, the Court of Final Appeals.
It would be a new Constitution, on the fly, tailored to the present day.

A-hah, but he didn't suspend the Constitution. Suspending the Constitution is necessary to finally get rid of that inevitable nuisance, Congress...or the Supreme Court.
You don't get it, do you? This is a much greater power than the peas and carrots you think about. But the right triggers must be pulled.
Think of it as a genetic structure. Donald Trump, whether knowingly or not, has triggered a mutation in the system: a path to unilateral executive action.

Yes, but the Senate is abdicating power, not grabbing it. I think we are finding that checks & balances are not popular with Republicans.
But I'm not concerned about Republican huggyness. SOE is a path to doing things, and doing them in our lifetime.

As I suggested above, you have no answer. Too bad...I was looking forward to a challenging discussion.
Changes are taking place to our Constitution, whether by design or default. Any others? Don't need to be an American, but familiarity with the Constitution is a plus.
