Because we have Spanish, German and Native American cities, often pronounced by people that never spoke Spanish, German or Native American (that would be you Brits who came here from the American South), we have some funny pronunciations.

I have to say i was stumped on every single one mate

I think its a very good way to learn the geography of places

Any that you like, and how big and small are these places?

Are they town size, village, hamlet etc?

Most are pretty small. Waxahachie is just south of Dallas and is a county seat.

New Braunfels is now a fairly large city just north of San Antonio, which oddly enough contains the small community of Gruene, which is pronounced Green.

It's home to the oldest dancehall in Texas named Gruene Hall.

Just looked it up and has a big population and is very close tp Dallas

Nor are Buda and Pest.  The Danube River runs between them.  For that matter, Minneapolis and St. Paul have a bend of the Mississippi that divides them as well, though they are both technically on both sides.

The broken body of James Byrd Jr., 49, was discovered on Sunday morning by residents of an area just outside the East Texas town of Jasper, population 8,000. As he walked home from his parents' house on Saturday night, Mr. Byrd was apparently picked up by the men sometime after midnight and taken to woods, where he was beaten, then chained to the truck and dragged for two miles.

Guy James Gray, the Jasper County District Attorney, called the killing ''probably the most brutal I've ever seen'' in 20 years as a prosecutor. Mr. Byrd's torso was found at the edge of a paved road, his head and an arm in a ditch about a mile away, according to an affidavit.
