Let's go to Luckenbach, Texas
With Waylon and Willie and the boys
This successful life we're livin'
Got us feuding like the Hatfields and McCoys
Between Hank Williams' pain songs and
Newbury's train songs and Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain
Out in Luckenbach, Texas ain't nobody feelin' no pain

Jiba threw me. Never heard of it.
Because we have Spanish, German and Native American cities, often pronounced by people that never spoke Spanish, German or Native American (that would be you Brits who came here from the American South), we have some funny pronunciations.

Most are pretty small. Waxahachie is just south of Dallas and is a county seat.
New Braunfels is now a fairly large city just north of San Antonio, which oddly enough contains the small community of Gruene, which is pronounced Green.
It's home to the oldest dancehall in Texas named Gruene Hall.

It is conjoined with Dallas as a twin-city. It's a double-city, like Minneapolis/St. Paul or Buda and Pest.

Nor are Buda and Pest. The Danube River runs between them. For that matter, Minneapolis and St. Paul have a bend of the Mississippi that divides them as well, though they are both technically on both sides.

Re: If Women Had "Hubby-Vision"
Yeah, between Fort Worth and Dallas you've got Arlington, Grand Prairie and Irving, which are all large cities in their own right.
Maybe it's just because I'm a near-life-long Fort Worther, but there's a point heading east down I-30 where it starts to feel like Dallas; right around the exit to the George Bush Turnpike.
Dallas is cold, hard, aggressive and soulless. Fort Worth has a totally different vibe; much more warm and laid-back. Way more art and music and creativity.

Parts of Texas I love. Beautiful state. I love El Paso...but it's a part of New Mexico, not Texas.
Texans have a deep sense of inadequacy.
New York Times wrote:Black Man Fatally Dragged In a Possible Racial Killing
By CAROL MARIE CROPPER JUNE 10, 1998
A black man was dragged to his death on Sunday from the back of a pickup truck in a rural section of Texas known for racist and Klan activity, and today three white men were charged with the murder.
The broken body of James Byrd Jr., 49, was discovered on Sunday morning by residents of an area just outside the East Texas town of Jasper, population 8,000. As he walked home from his parents' house on Saturday night, Mr. Byrd was apparently picked up by the men sometime after midnight and taken to woods, where he was beaten, then chained to the truck and dragged for two miles.
Guy James Gray, the Jasper County District Attorney, called the killing ''probably the most brutal I've ever seen'' in 20 years as a prosecutor. Mr. Byrd's torso was found at the edge of a paved road, his head and an arm in a ditch about a mile away, according to an affidavit.
Ugly, ugly, ugly.
