Which kind of threads are you more inclined to read and respond to? Empty Which kind of threads are you more inclined to read and respond to?

Something Quill said interested me.
Why are some threads successful and others get no response?
Which subjects are you drawn more too, and does it depend who starts a thread on whether you think it'll be interesting or not?
I wonder why some posters are prolific thread starters and others never initiate, even though they are good at debating in threads others have started.

I tend to get here when anything I may have thought of starting has already been started, I try to get involved with replies but some things I don't know too much about/not interested enough to find out about maybe or by the time I have looked into it, its mainly been said so don't offer an opinion on those. I also get trouble with links. Maybe I should try harder in 2019.

I can't be bothered to start threads because someone will immediately take them off topic or get abusive.

I don't tend to get involved in personal threads, but other than that, it's just whatever looks interesting.

You should start more threads. The ones you do start are usually interesting imo.

You start very few threads, sometimes I wonder whether you know how to post links. Razz

Personally I like human interest threads, or threads that ask a question...makes you think.

I'm not that struck on endless threads about Trump, Jews, Immigrants, Corbyn, Brexit, extreme left/right topics, and anything with realms of text puts me off too.

I prefer to read what an individual thinks rather than what some journalist is paid to write.

Other than all that, I am pretty open minded. Cool

What I said was, if you start with a very broad topic, like someone making predictions (on anything), you will get a broad range of interests and comments.  If you start with something very narrow (like some quote or other), it peters out pretty quickly.

There are probably other trends.  It would be interesting so study them.

I don't start threads with that kind of concern in mind, however.  I'm strictly a subject guy.

Really good thread starters are Didge, HT, Andy and Syl.  Oh, and Lurker when it comes to memes.  They probably have a better feel for these kinds of things.

Me?  I have these thoughts.  As soon as I run across one or two articles which have the same thought, I'm encouraged to start a thread.  Some are real duds.

I don't know what takes off.   And I don't care where a thread goes.  I'm not anal about rules.  Sometimes a thread that doesn't interest me, I'll go back a week or so later and it has taken a turn that attracts me.

Great answer Quill, and it was your comment on the other thread that made me wonder....which gave rise to the thread, which possibly most people wont be interested in...but who cares? Laughing

I do love it when a thread takes off and grows, it doesnt matter who starts it, if it's interesting it's interesting, and when a good thread isn't disrupted by petty insults, like you say, you can dip in and out of it when it veers in a different direction.
Like you I dont care if a thread takes a different turn, a good topic, like a good conversation can end up discussing something completely different at the end as it did at the start.

I’m not interested in a thread where everyone posts someone else’s opinion ie LINKS and ARTICLES.

If it’s a news article then post that up and discuss it with your own opinions. Threads that are links answering links are tedious.
I avoid them.

Agreed, you should always add your own thoughts and words.  But sometimes an article can frame an idea or topic, and kinda give the back story for you to launch into your addition.

But sometimes I do think something is so beautiful or perfect, that posting it for others to see is OK.  Check out on the Arts & Entertainment section, the posts on Revel's Bolero.  So beautiful and fun, you almost need not comment...

Cool

Oh I agree. Sometimes an article definitely provides food for thought, but I like to see opinions and thoughts not constant “Well look what this intellectual person said..”

That’s just blah.

I like to start threads about factual things that have happened that may cause controversy or debate.
Truly pointless when everyone is going to agree or disagree with it. Political figures are natural targets.

Without people starting threads, there would be a very dead forum.

I can.  In fact, I rarely even enter them. They are a dime-a-dozen around here.  I'm in the one about the Somali nutcase because something interested me in an early post.  Fook if I didn't get caught up in it again.

Usually, it's the same old bull shite so I ignore them.

Probably because he has been done to death.
I am more interested in reading about his wife than him, but sadly she turns out to be pretty vacuous anyway.
